Tools and Hardware Reviews of Safe-er- Grip Bath & shower Handle, 17-InchesCustomer Review: Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
Every time I step into the shower I grab one of these (I have two) and always think "what a great product". These replaced two Get-A-Grip products I had which proved to be absolutely useless after no more than two weeks use. These Safe-er-Grips on the other hand have proven excellent. Of course, I never use them to bear any significant weight. They are not intended for that and I suspect my wall tile isn't either. But they provide a needed handhold for stability and have been great in that capacity. I have repositioned them a couple times seeking the best locations, but they have never once loosened on their own. I check them daily before stepping into the shower and they are always solid. I have used them over two months now and believe they have been well worth the low price I paid for them. Whenever we travel I'll be popping these off the wall and packing them in a suitcase so we can feel secure in any shower or bath.
I would recommend these to anyone needing something simple for stability in a shower or bath. Absolutely great product so far. Stay away from the cheaply made (but comparably priced) imitations!! I doubt you'll go wrong with these Safe-er-Grips.
Incidentally, I selected this product based on user reviews when I was having so much trouble with my original products. I appreciate the folks who took the time to say good things about this item. They surely helped me.
ADDED: After more than 9 months of daily use these continue to be excellent grips. One side of each grip has loosened only once and all I had to do was ensure the tile was dry and reattach. I test each grip daily for looseness before trusting them as handholds for my balance. Once more though, these are not intended to be weight-bearing devices, and neither are my wall tiles. As something to hold or grab for stability though they are excellent and I still give them a 5-star evaluation. Note that I have these attached to smooth ceramic tiles which I thoroughly cleaned with glass cleaner and dried well before attaching the grips.
Customer Review: It works on 4" tiles and I like it Summary: 5 Stars
We ordered the Safe-er-Grip by MHI Mommy's Helper from Amazon. We bought the 17" model. Initial impressions are that it is basically exactly what we wanted. It is substantial with some heft to it. The feel of the handle is excellent and gives a great grip. We have 4" tiles and it works both vertically and horizontally. Based on another review in here we had thought that we would have to mount it on a slant but that turned out not to be the case. Also we tried the Amazon Prime shipping and that worked exactly as advertised and in 2 days it was here as promised.
We cleaned the tiles and stuck it on and presto bingo it is very solid. Naturally you wouldn't want to use it to support your weight except in an emergency fall but it would. Very impressed both with the price from Amazon and the product itself. We had tried a cheaper advertised on tv grip that we bought from Bed Bath and Beyond for about $13 but that did not work on 4" tiles and was not the product we wanted.
We also purchased from Amazon the 24" Health Circle Quick Rail and it also is an excellent product. The 24" Quick Rail had to be mounted on a slant on 4" tiles although the advertising claimed it was engineered for 4,6 and 8" tiles. Actually at 24" and on a slant it also is a wonderful safety product and is also of high quality. Very happy with both products purchased through Amazon.
Customer Review: Great solution to a vexing problem Summary: 5 Stars
I needed to try something like this, because the studs in the wall behind my shower are WAY too far apart to install the standard safety grab bars. But then I realized that what I really needed was just a way for my wife and I to steady ourselves, not pull ourselves up.
At first, I was a little leary of the suction cup grab bars, because some of the people who reviewed them said they had trouble getting the bars to stay on the wall. Thankfully, I decided to try two of the bars.
I have them both installed and have had no problem whatsoever with them coming loose. I did notice, however, that if you try to install the bars at an angle, for some reason the lower end suction cup does not seal against the tile. So, I installed them horizontally, even though the edge of the suction cup tends to fall a LITTLE into the seam between the 4" tiles. I also made sure that I maintained pressure on the end of the bar while closing the lever. They have been sticking to the tile ever since, as solidly as the day I installed them several weeks ago.
The bars seem to be very well made, of a quality that you don't usually see anymore. I'm glad I have them.
Customer Review: Performs exactly as advertised Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this item to help my aging mother who is visiting us this summer. She is 80 and has had handles installed in her shower at home. We did not want to go the expense to have fixtures installed in our own shower, so we decided to give this product a try.
We have a traditional tub - shower combo unit in our guest bathroom. the walls are covered with 5" ceramic tiles (non-textured surface). I made sure that the surface was clean and installed the handle per the instructions. Now the handle is solidly stuck to our wall and has been for the past month.
Please understand that mom uses the handle to steady herself as she gets in and out of the tub and while she reaches down the wash her feet. This unit is not used to take her full weight although I think it would work for that too if she were to loose her footing and need the handle in an emergency.
Bottom-line is that this is exactly as advertised. All I can say is that it is perfect for us. It is a great, low cost & temporary fixture that assists my mom as she uses the shower.
Customer Review: It works! Even on shower surround Summary: 5 Stars
My aging mother in law was coming to visit and I was afraid she would fall in strange surroundings as she has grab bars and a shower seat at home. Most reviews were positive, but I didn't see one where the bar was mounted on a plastic(?) shower surround. The surrounds gives a little, and I wasn't sure about how flat it was. I feared the bar would pop off if the wall bent a little. I cleaned the surface well with alcohol before I attached the bar and it had held tightly. It supports all of my leaning weight and I have yanked and pulled on it, but it holds tight. We've now had it up for weeks and it is holding as tightly as ever. For a temporary situation, or for anyone who does not want to drill holes in their walls, this bar is perfect. Usually all that is needed is a little stability, and this provides much more than that.
Added: The bar did break off after a couple months (mother in law was long gone). So, I would recommend that people re-clean and reattach it periodically for continuous use.
