Customer Review: A New Use For This Wonderful Product

I bought this Moonrays 99924 Color-Changing Glass Ball Fixture to display at my 2nd level apartment window facing the street. I decided to think outside the box because this item seems to be used just for the garden or lawn but I wanted it inside and at the west-facing window where it gets a lot of sunlight.
Being winter here in Buffalo, NY right now, the sun seldom shines for long and that means the solar panels on this item has little to work with and the batteries barely get fully charged. I have the unit anchored securely on my window sill but I needed to find a way to recharge the batteries CONSISTENTLY... so what I did was open the unit via the 4- PH 1 screws and took out the 1 battery, soldered lead wires to the positive terminal and negative terminal of the battery holder and fed it through the hole at the bottom of the battery holder and continued feeding the 2 wires through the hollow tube that would go into the ground until they exited the spike end and the anchor which has an exit hole for the wires. The 2 wires would continue far enough to an external one-battery holder (from Radio Shack of whatever old gadget laying around) and solder the wires to the positive and negative terminals as I did to the battery holder in the unit. Then I re-assembled the unit and fixed it back on it's anchor on the window sill.
Finally, I had an AA, AAA, Ni-Cd recharger (any Radio Shack has these) laying around that I can now use to recharge the battery which has a light that goes out to let you know the battery is fully charged. I then put the battery into the external battery holder and wait for dusk. The photoelectric sensor on the unit turns on the unit at night and shuts it off at dawn. The great part is that if there is good sunlight during the day, the re-chargeable battery will re-charge from the solar cell panels like it would as if it was inside the unit and I don't have to do anything but make sure the on/off switch is in the on position. If there is a cloudy day, all I have to do is take the battery out of the external holder and re-charge it in the recharger, then back into the external battery holder. The Moonrays 99924 Color-Changing Glass Ball Fixture lights up BEAUTIFULLY EVERY NIGHT!! The colors morph slowly in a tranquil and mesmerizing way! Thank you Moonrays and Amazon!
