Tools and Hardware Reviews of Clocky Alarm Clock on Wheels, AlmondCustomer Review: works well! Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great and helpful alarm clock, it's loud and gets me out of bed, which helps when i didnt get enough sleep the night before, love it!
Customer Review: Great... while it lasted! Summary: 3 Stars
I've had my clocky for almost two years and it's been cute and fun and VERY useful to me. I even got one for my sister, who has moderate hearing loss and is a teenager (so she sleeps like the dead). Recently, (last few weeks) I started missing appointments and not getting up when I was supposed to. I started thinking I was "getting used to" clocky: I stopped waking up to it, but when I checked it, it seemed fine so it must be me, right? However, this hasn't happened before. Then I did more than a cursory check on it and it FREAKED OUT... kinda like what R2D2 does when he gets electrocuted in Star Wars (clocky sounds a lot like R2D2 in a mostly non-copyright-infringing way). We had to take out the batteries to make it stop, and I haven't even tried using it as an alarm since then. It's too untrustworthy, and I can't afford to miss any more school OR work. By the way, I seldom had it on anything but the floor... maybe that's why it lasted so long!
I give it three stars because I'm so disappointed in how things turned out, but I tell you I LOVED this product while it was working. Also, it gets three stars for lack of features, which you can read about in some of the other reviews. I know I'm way past the return/warranty for it so I'm just going to have to suck it up and buy another alarm clock but - with fondness yet sadness - it won't be a clocky.
Customer Review: Good - with a few issues Summary: 3 Stars
Here's the good:
-The alarm is extremely loud, jarring, and unpredictable. There is NO way you could ever sleep through it.
-The controls are easy to use.
-It's smaller than I thought it would be, so it fits easily on the nightstand.
-When given the right opportunities, it really does "run off" and cause you to get out of bed.
The bad:
-The button you use to turn off the alarm really TURNS OFF the alarm. If you don't remember to hit again, your alarm will be OFF and won't go off the next morning. So, shutting off the alarm turns it off completely. I got caught by that once or twice. :-(
-Clocky is kind of stupid and doesn't have a large variety of programmed paths. Mine always tries to take a left after jumping off the table and ends up bonking into stuff under the bed uselessly until I turn it off or snooze. It stays easily within my reach. If I put it on the floor after I hit snooze the first time, it tends to do better.
-I'll have to see if after extended use the alarm really drives me (or my fiance) crazy.
Customer Review: Clocky is nice if you don't need to change the batteries. Summary: 3 Stars
I received a clocky in 2008 for Christmas but after the batteries died and I went to change them even with the pull strap they didn't come out easily. Once they finally did come out they bent the springs and the opposite end with the plates were awkwardly bent as well. I tried putting new batteries in and after ten minutes of struggle without it turning on and trying to push the battery in carefully one of them broke and started leaking.
It's an awesome alarm clock but they really should make the battery compartment easier to deal with. Maybe I was just unlucky with mine. I would get another but the price is a bit high.
Customer Review: More Novelty than Practicality Summary: 3 Stars
The idea is great, but the execution could use some work. If the carpet it lands on is fluffy in any sense of the word it will just spin on its axle rather than speed off to hide. It's alarm, although better than the standard blare, is still quite annoying and loud, and if left un-silenced for more than 10 seconds it becomes a repetitive beep rather than the random sounds. It does work as an alarm clock, but beyond that it is still rather limited.
