Tools and Hardware Reviews of Nellie's NDB-E Dryer Balls, Regular FabricsCustomer Review: Alternative to dryer sheets. Summary: 5 Stars
I recently became allergic to dryer sheets so as an alternative my boyfriend and I have started using Nellie's Dryer Balls. They do work to reduce static cling, and they do seem to be reducing the amount of lint produced during drying, however I can't really tell if they are reducing the dryer time or not. They are great for drying towels, and my clothes actually feel softer and better against my skin.
There are a few other things I should mention. First, they are very loud in the dryer and this can be a problem for someone with their dryer in ears range. Luckily my boyfriend and I have our washer/dryer in a separate room with a door so it's not an issue for us, but when the door is open I can very clearly hear them banging around. Also, these should be used with a regular load of laundry (i.e. sturdy t-shirts, jeans, socks), I would not recommend you use these when washing anything delicate such as strapy tank tops, nylons, under garments, or anything made of silk or satin. These are not scented, so if you love that "fresh out of the dryer" scent you will be missing that. Lastly, I have not had any problems with the balls disintegrating or losing spikes like other reviewers have said, but I always run my dryer on a medium to low heat so repeatedly running these balls in a high heat cycle could be a problem.
Overall I would recommend these, they're more cost effective than fabric softener sheets and they will probably prolong the life of your clothing.
Customer Review: Very pleased! Summary: 5 Stars
My dermatologist recommended dryer balls so I could stop using fabric softener or dryer sheets. She said to get at least four balls, preferably six or eight. I got four at first to see if I liked them. I was so pleased I ordered four more. I usually use all eight of them together. Four worked fine, but more balls seems to reduce the drying time. Like other reviewers, I have a lot less lint now. What I like about the Nellie's product is they are high-quality and have a two year guarantee. Helpful hints: You should run several loads of towels before you start using the dryer balls, to clean the fabric softener/sheet residue out of your dryer. The balls work best for me if I wash items together that take about the same amount of time to dry. Like I don't make a load that has both blue jeans and synthetic fabrics like microfiber or nylon. The reason for this is the static factor. If you dry things too hot or too long it creates static. My clothes and even the towels are nice and soft. It seems like a silly idea, but now I'm a believer!
Customer Review: Super AWESOME!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased Nellie's Dryer Balls along with the lavender sticks and the green washer ball. I've only used them once, but could not be more amazed at their performance!! I only put one lavender stick in, instead of two. It was just enough fragrance for a generously-sized load. We have very hard water and everything came out feeling softer than I've ever experienced before, very clean, very fresh, AMAZING!!! EVERYBODY should own these! Not only am I looking forward to fresher, softer, cleaner clothes than ever, but also looking forward to saving money, saving storage space since these take up less space than our usual barrage of detergent, softner and whitener, and helping the environment too.
Customer Review: Great While they Lasted Summary: 5 Stars
A friend gave me a pair of these dryer balls about a year ago, and they worked really well. I have been very pleased with their performance. I sometimes miss the fresh scent of the dryer sheets, but I certainly do not miss the cost, and I do not miss the thought of more chemicals on my clothes and skin. The only criticism I have of these balls is that they do nothing to combat static - items with spandex or nylon in them are the worst.
I took a load out of the dryer about a week ago, and one of the balls was split open. I think it is probably normal wear and tear - I have used the heck out of them. I am going to order some more.
Customer Review: Make the switch Summary: 5 Stars
I bought these dryer balls after the holistic veterinarian told me that dryer sheets were dangerous for dogs. She advised against using dryer sheets for any piece of laundry that the dogs slept on. After hearing this and researching dryer sheets, I decided to make the switch for all our laundry.
I use four-six laundry balls at a time and they work great. I purchased these and the green ones from the same company. I have not noticed a decreased dry time, but my clothes are not wrinkled and do not have static. These dryer balls are high quality and I recommend them. Plus, they are environmentally friendly.
