Tools and Hardware Reviews of Nomad Solid Hardwood Platform Bed Frame - Queen Size

Customer Review: Good quality for the money, simple and appealing
Summary: 5 Stars

When I bought my memory-foam mattress, I was looking for a platform bed of fairly decent quality that was also very inexpensive, as I was somewhat cash-strapped at the time, having moved my entire household and all our possessions out-of-state to our new home while staying in the old location for work. I saw this, and decided to take a chance.

It's pretty easy to put together, although it would be useful at a couple of points to have an extra set of hands to do things that are awkward with just one person. I made minor adjustments to it over the first couple of weeks, and have now been sleeping on it for about 9 months now, and am very pleased. The frame is solid pine, and although I didn't bother to stain and sand it, it's fairly smooth with absolutely no splinters. I'm a large man, 6'4" and 290 lbs, and it supports me just fine. I recommend you put those plastic sliding feet you can get at any drug store/grocery store/hardware store under the legs, so that it's easy to move the entire thing for vacuuming and cleaning purposes.

I like the simple, minimal look of the thing, including the short optional headboard piece, but if you want, it's very easy to hide all the legs and such just by adding dust-ruffels/bedskirts to your bedding.

I don't think you can really beat this for the money. I don't have the need for them presently, but I would in the future certainly consider getting the matching under-bed storage units, also for sale through Amazon: Set of 2 Under Bed Storage Drawers - Rolling Organizers

Customer Review: Best bed ever!
Summary: 5 Stars

My fiance and I searched every internet site and every furniture store around us looking for a platform bed. We couldn't find a single thing under $250, they were ALL made out of particle board and weighed over a 100 pounds! We were so excited when we found the Nomad bed that we ordered it immediately. The shipping took half as long as the predicted 12 days; although, there was no tracking, which was frustrating. On the morning of the fifth day as I was preparing to call Amazon to track down whether or not the bed had even shipped, it showed up on our front porch!
We set it up right then and there and it took us less than 15 minutes! It was sooo easy, all the pieces fit together perfectly! The screws, though they do show, have a dark finish on them so they actually look nice and give a natural, handmade look to a fairly contemporary bed. There are slats that your mattress sits on, so if you have a tempurpedic I would recommend getting some plywood to lay down, but our regular mattress has been fantastic without plywood. It's so nice not having to deal with a boxspring!
One of the best things about this bed is that even though it's a platform, you can store stuff under it! It's much higher off the ground than most platforms, so we could actually put drawers underneath!
All-in-all, buying this bed was the smartest purchase we ever made. The bolts screw into metal sockets, not the wood, so whenever we move we'll have no problem taking the bed apart and bringing it with us! It's going to be with us for a very long time!

Customer Review: Great bed if you need to store stuff underneath it
Summary: 5 Stars

We've had this bed for a month now and are loving it. It's a very basic bed but the real attraction is that the sides have a clearance of almost 12 inches. We had some custom-made drawers that rolled out from underneath our full-sized bed that we wanted to keep using and this bed accommodated them nicely. The bed is fairly easy to assemble. I recommend having a second person help in order to just stabilize the parts you are trying to connect. However, I was able to put it together myself in under an hour by resting parts against walls and on top of the existing drawers I had. So, if you have something between 10 and 12 inches high that you can rest the bed on, you can assemble this by yourself just as well.

I also enjoy that the bed does not creak at all. It may be because I have tightened it enough, although they recommend a re-tightening after one month which I will do. It may also be because it has no headboard piece that might squeak. We applied a finish to the bed just to protect it and because the wood was pretty bare it absorbed 3 coats before we felt comfortable with assembling the bed.

One comment about the seller -- we had a shipping snafu that they immediately corrected with very little hassle. I just recommend checking the box you receive before you take apart your old bed. *grin* Anyway, they were a pleasure to work with and the bed is working out nicely. Because of the high height of the bed, we do not use a box spring with our mattress and I couldn't imagine even doing so.

Customer Review: beautiful, well made
Summary: 5 Stars

I did a lot of searching before I decided to buy this frame. I was not thrilled with the idea of unfinished wood. I felt the unfinished wood and two by four look to the legs would make the piece look like it belonged in a college dorm room. But I was influenced by the positive feedback from other customers. And by the `made in USA' logo.

The frame is much prettier in person than I expected. The wood is lovely, each piece sanded and fitted. It looks so nice that I am considering leaving the wood as is, rather than finishing it in the dark cherry I traditionally like.

The assembly instructions were simple. I put it together myself in about an hour. I kept marveling at how well the pieces fit. Wow, I forgot how nice `made in the USA" really is! The craftsmanship far exceeds expectations based on purchase price alone. The piece is so sturdy, so well made! I'm really delighted.

The frame is slightly higher than expected for a platform bed. I like that, as I really dislike feeling like I'm sleeping on the floor. Delivery time was faster than promised, and the packaging was so good that the contents took no damage in transit.

Exceptional value.

Customer Review: Strong, Well-Built, Easy to Assemble
Summary: 5 Stars

I received this bed in less time than projected, and assembled it alone, as one person, because all the pieces lined up. I commend the builders for their precise construction and easy instructions. There are two sections to the "bed" of the bed, secured with a few slats screwed in, and several slats simply set in. The hard part in assembling the bed as one person comes when securing the two bed flats to the two end pieces. There are bolts--I forget their name--that are cylindrical and into which the screws securely turn. You drop the bolts in from above. But you can put all the screws in first to balance the bed parts. While holding onto the foot end just lean the head end against something--ladder, chair--but not the wall. Secure the bed in place with all the long screws in all the holes, and then, one by one, pull out a screw, drop in the cylindrical bolt from above, and then from the side, turn the screw into place. Easy. The bed is solid and a nice height. I dressed up my bed with an upholstered headboard and a white scalloped dust ruffle, so the bed is not visible. I did not have to paint or stain it. I am completely comfortable on it.
