Customer Review: I Treasure My New Zen Clock

After borrowing a clock from a friend a bit over a year ago to make sure it didn't "tick" audibly, and discovering I absolutely loved it, I purchased one through Amazon.com. My husband had gone to Iraq, and I was at a time where I was working to create as beautiful as possible space in life - much meditation, being in the moment, spending time with our horses, dogs, cats, animals, being able to work at my own pace and wake to the perfectly tuned and timed chiming of the Zen clock I discovered. I dearly loved it. I believe I got the clock sometime about last July. I injured my back fairly severely in June, and I was able to use the clock as part of regular meditation regimes, as part of meditation to control pain, and just of course part of waking every day to our beautiful rural setting. Even though my husband was gone, it was a time in life where I actively worked to better the lives of others through peaceful work.
My husband returned home in October, and although I returned to work outside the home, I was happy to note that the clock continued to make the "early morning rising" easier. Aside from the outside beauty of the clock, the things I loved most about the clock were the complete inaudibility of the `ticking' noise that so many clocks (almost every clock one comes across these days!) have, and of course the perfection of the `timing' you have created with the chimes and their `mathematical' chiming structure. It is beauty. As a musician, I truly feel the difference.
Sadly, on March 15th, our house burned down. Although the fire started downstairs, the concentration of the heat came upstairs to our bedroom, which was where our clock was. Although I order a new clock, it is not because it was destroyed...No, the clock still works! It went through a fire - blazing heat! It is, unfortunately, simply too charred to ever get the smoke smell out. It does, however, work!
So, it rests in the shop, outside, at our new temporary `home'...and someday when we find a home to be our `forever' home, I will try to sand it down and have it be in an outside `living space' - perhaps in a gazebo for meditation or the like. (Sadly, it is simply too permeated with smoke to ever be an "inside" clock again...so it must be replaced. I finally have been able to save up enough to replace it...) But for now, it sits in our shop, and when I can, I leave the door open, and I hear it chime now and then if I am sitting at the pond, which is one feature of the rental house that I do love.
You have a wonderful, beautiful timepiece - wonderful enough so that I now am blessedly able to order one right now...I wish I could order more Now & Zen products - there are some I would love to try! - but I've got enough to be able to "rebuild" at least this piece of my life, and am so very happy. I wanted to let you know that your clock is so important to me, and that it likely is just as important to other people....and, it is certainly, definitely durable! Smokable, fireable, droppable by firemen, durable! Thank you for such a beautiful, graceful, lovable product...I know I will treasure my new clock.

I must tell you, today was the first day awakened by the sweet chiming of our Zen alarm clock, and I have to say, I feel that this is the gift that has made the most direct impact on my day-to-day quality of life... ever! I almost wrote, "It's the best gift I've ever received," but then I felt bad for all of the other wonderful gifts I've been given in my life, so I re-phrased.
I highly recommend this alarm clock to everyone. Instead of an abrupt, scary, irritating, electronic awakening, which tends to leave me grumpy and feeling rushed, this morning when the soft chime of our new alarm clock awoke me, I was gently stirred from slumber. The built-in snooze function of the clock, which chimes at intervals which get progressively shorter and louder, allowed me to slowly awaken instead of quickly, and hitting snooze and then continuously hitting snooze until I physically have to get out of bed for fear of some negative consequence of being late. By the third chime, I was fully awake and ready to start my day. It was 6:00 am. Usually at 6:00 am I am grumpy, but today, I felt content, at peace, awake (not groggy) and I went to make some coffee. (And had time to do that.)
I usually don't leave myself enough time in the morning to shower either. I shower at night, knowing full well that mornings are too rushed for me. This morning in addition to coffee, I enjoyed a nice shower!
As for V, when the alarm clock began with it's first tranquil "dong" in the note of "E," (and tuned with Pythagorean tuning) I sensed V rustling in the sheets as well. By the third chime, she was also fully awake. I offered to re-set the alarm for her desired "awake time" of 7:30. When I went to make coffee, I heard V getting up to go to the bathroom. She was awake for the day, and decided to get up early and begin working on her depo summary. V had added an extra 4 hours in her busy day!!! She usually gets up at 10:00 am. Wow. So cool.
The best part about all of this is that I actually left the house on time! Because of my problem waking up I am usually in to work by 8:15 or 8:30. This has been a source of conflict for my boss and me for two years, bbut literally, even with 2 alarms, I still couldn't get up easily. This morning I was five minutes early.
Again, for anyone who has an early wake up or a difficult relationship with waking up, sleeping, and work hours, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Zen alarm clock! It's pricey but it's worth every cent for improving your quality of life!!
I look forward to waking up like this every day for the rest of my life. It's the only way to awaken!

Customer Review: great way to wake up

I got this clock almost two years ago as a birthday present. It's a great little alarm clock, even if the chime is just a tad too loud (on the low setting). I need to adjust the chime bar a bit more, but that is easier said than done. Still, the clock is wonderful.
A few months ago one of the wires connecting the LCD clock to the rest of the clock broke. I figured I had just opened it up and closed it too many times, as wires can't flex like that indefinitely. I called Now & Zen to see how to fix it, as I would have rather repaired it than buy a new one. Unfortunately, they said I couldn't replace the wire myself (it's kind of hard to open the thing, and probably impossible to do it without damaging it), but they have a replacement deal for clocks that are outside the warranty time period where they'll give you a 50% of the current price of your old clock back if you mail them back your defective clock. I guess they will fix the old clock (or at least, that is my hope).
Shipping is a pain (in the checkbook, mostly), but the clock is still great, and the person I talked to over the phone was pleasant. She said that the defect I experienced was rare, but an extra step was added to the manufacturing process to avoid this problem from happening. Still, I am now trying to open and close my clock as little as possible, whereas before I'd close it every morning.
I had read some other reviewer knocking the company's product and support, so I was hesitant to call in the first place. The guy seemed really mad. Having talked to the company myself, I imagine that that reviewer's anger stems from something else.

I am writing to thank you personally for a unique and amazing product, and for the excellent customer care your company
provided around our purchase! Seeking something to help my husband shift the ill effects of stress (active in the environmental field, he's up early each day and tends to work never-ending hours), I bought him a Zen Clock as a gift.
There wasn't a better start to the New Year than eliminating the "alarm" factor in what should be a joyful thing: waking up each day! We love the sound, look and functionality of the clock, and wake up easily and organically to the gentle, progressing chimes. At the start of the progression, we find ourselves taking a few deep breaths and using those moments between chimes to set our intentions for joy and pleasure in the day. By the time the chimes are at their loudest, we are smiling and happy to rise.
Frankly-- now that we've tried a Zen clock, we'd never go back to the unnecessary shock and stress of a clanging alarm...
A year after purchase, we did experience two, small service issues- one with the adapter, and one with the clock itself.
