Tools and Hardware Reviews of O2Cool 1078 Indoor/Outdoor Battery/AC-Powered 10-Inch Portable FanCustomer Review: Item #5012 O2 Cool Fan Summary: 3 Stars
The Item # on my fan is 5012. Bought it in 2009 and it worked fine the first night I used it on battries. Second night it started going up and down on the speed of the fan. Ran it on plug in power and it does the same. Noticed the plug in does get rather warm. I like the fan, it blows decient amounts of air for using in a tent and I have used it in my travel trailer when the power went out and it supplyed enough air in the trailer bed room coming from the foot of the bed. Saved the night for me. The most I have ran it on battries is 32 hours on a camping trip and it still had plenty power left. A bit leary of the up and down of the speed, so if anyone knows of this fan shorting out or something, please post it. My fan is quite enough too. I'm not going to recommend it because of the surging and not knowing why, but I'm not throwing mine out just yet!!
Customer Review: Has to be close to you to feel the breeze Summary: 3 Stars
I was thinking of buying one of these fans. I saw a demostration model in a store and tested it, but I didn't feel any breeze from its position on the shelf. It was only when I took it off the shelf and held it about 12" from my face that I felt the fan. On the good side, it is very quiet though.
Customer Review: Acceptable, but not great Summary: 3 Stars
Pushes a decent amount of air, although can be a little noisy. Expected a little better quality for the price (the case is a little flimsy), but it's acceptable.
Customer Review: Was good while it lasted Summary: 2 Stars
The little fan moved a lot of air for it's thin size. However, it was pretty loud. It didn't want to stay upright unless you had it set to the middle position. One click back or forward and it would fall over. I dropped mine from a height of about 3 feet onto a hard floor and 3 of the 5 blades in the fan just snapped off. I'll miss the portability of it but not much else.
Customer Review: poorly implemented concept, or just my bad luck? Summary: 1 Stars
I got this a couple of years ago... used it with the wall adapter for all of that time. I need a fan to sleep (for white noise) and thought this would be a bit cheaper to operate. Worked fine for a month or so, then started to speed up, then slow down - randomly. Soon after, the low switch mode doesn't work any longer - so now it's just on high speed. The random speed up / slow down still applies, and sometimes the fan won't work at all. I had thought this was due to the cheap wall adapter.
I went camping with it this last weekend - bought the 8 D cell batts for it... opened the batt compartment for the first time - the contacts are all rusted. I never stored this anywhere where this could happen - no high moisture level - anything like that. I covered the contacts with alum foil just to get the connections going for the night. The same random speed up / slow downs kept happening - guess I can't blame the wall adapter any longer.
In conclusion, this fan is a bit noisey, randomly chooses a speed (although low no longer works), required "fixing" to get batts to work. I would NOT buy it again.
I've read the other reviews here - maybe I just got a bad one...
