I had been searching for something like this strainer, literally, for years. Stuff always managed to get underneath the metal strainers I bought, and controlling water flow always meant opening or closing the strainer.
Enter the OXO Silicone Strainer. At approximately $7, it's about the same price as normal metal strainers. Using it is easy enough -- just make sure the strainer is center over your drain. Its top is thin enough that most debris will flow over the top of the strainer and into the silicone basket. And even when debris starts to accumulate in the silicon basket, water is still able to escape through it without any adjustment.
All in all, a great product -- I couldn't be happier with this simple yet effective piece of technology.

Absolutely, this is a MUST-HAVE item in the kitchen.
I feel disgusting to scrape mashed stuffs out of my ex-strainer (a kind of those with little meshed holes). When I shopped on amazon.com and found this silicone strainer, I just wondered if it is really heat resistance and durable and of course, it seems quite not worth to spend around USD6 to buy a little filter (compared with my ex-strainer which only costs one dollar).
Finally, I try it!
Wow, it really works! It's never easy to remove ALL goop from the strainer but it's really effective!! LOVE it, LOVE it! I can stop to use my nails to pick all goop from the meshed strainer (Disgusting and HATE it!). Just pull the basket, ALL GONE~ YEAH! ^O^

This is the best strainer and of course way better than picking lots of food bits out of the sink drain with your fingers while washing the dishes. I dont have a garbage disposal, instead my sink drain has a 7 hole grate built in at the bottom that can fill up fast and clog, especially after certain meals! This strainer works wonderfully, looks great and most importantly can be emptied of a lot of food in just seconds.
I pick it up from the sink and turn it upside down over the garbage can to dump it and then flick the center of the bottom hard, inverting it and sending any sticky bits flying downward off the silicone into the trash, then I push it back down into the sink drain. Takes me way longer to say it than to do it lol.

I recently purchased these at store because I was given a gift card for the store. I had been wanting them for a while. I am VERY pleased with them. They are easy to empty by turning inside out over trash can and rinsing under the faucet. One thing that sold me on them was the stainless steel rim. My stainless steel sink is in good condition, but the pipes that connect to the top of the sink are discolored, scratched and ugly. The stainless rim that holds the black mesh filter part of the strainer just fits into that opening where other strainers I used did not. Just makes the sink look better when nothing is in it!Customer Review: Great Strainer!

A useful little accessory for any sink. The convenient little handle makes it a breeze to remove the strainer from the sink hole and allows the silicon mesh to be inverted easily. I like the fact that the silicon is of a dark color which makes it almost indiscernible when it's sitting in the sink hole. The metal frame is raised only slightly so there is minimal blockage for the waste flowing into the strainer. Wish it could have been flat but I guess that might be an impossible design.
Make sure you have at least an inch and a half of clearance for the strainer to sit comfortably in the sink hole.
