NAWOU empowers its women artisans to attain financial independence and also focuses on sustainable development, health, and education. About The Artisan
The National Association of Women Organizations in Uganda was founded in 1992 to uplift rural communities affected by poverty. With female leadership and business skills training, artisans can start their own weaving businesses, and participate in public campaigns on domestic violence awareness. They weave unique banana fiber baskets by intertwining palm leaves and tree bark, making designs from color extracted from the dye of local vegetation; sustainable for people and the land!
