A hundred families in La Chamba, Colombia have used a natural process to make black pottery out of red and gray clay for nearly 300 years. The La Chamba organization helps with marketing and distribution, ensuring the survival of this craft and the village!

About The Artisan
La Chamba was founded in 1983 in Tolima, Colombia, in an area where most women have crafted pottery for their livelihood since pre-Colombian times. La Chamba was able to triple production and reduce pollution by upgrading from wood kilns (constrained by weather conditions) to gas kilns. Artisans can now earn a fair wage in a sustainable industry, allowing rich cultural legacies to survive and thrive through this distinctive art form!
