The P3 International P4460 Kill A Watt EZ Electricity Usage Monitor is a very nice tool. The $35 that I paid is a little more than I had hoped, but not too bad. The unit seems to be running well as I've been using it for a month now. Unfortunately, I have nothing to compare it with. I looked at Lowes, Home Depot and Menards and couldn't find any such device. So far, I like what I see, and I would recommend this to someone needing a Watt meter. As far as the actual order, I am very pleased how well ordering this online from Amazon was. I orderd Sunday night and received it via the cheapest ground rate Wednesday afternoon. Overall a very good experience.

I found this very easy to use and very informative. I immediately plugged it into everyday items and found that things like my refrigerator weren't my biggest problem. I found a fan that we use at night, used a lot of power to operate on a daily basis and it's a problem. I was using it right out of the box without a hitch. Granted, if you want to see something in realtime, depending on where the outlet is or how your extension cord runs, it maybe tough - but what's the point - once you are done, plug it into a place where you can read the display and look at the data to be amazed. If you want to save some money on your electric bill... BUY THIS!
I am soooooooo happy I did! I have had this product for awhile now and you would be amazed at how much electric you are wasting and how much it costs just to keep an item plugged in and not even use it! The price for this unit is pretty hefty, but the savings you get back from knowing what you are wasting, is well worth it! Wait till you see what those power packs waste just by being plugged in all the time! You know.... printers, chargers, copiers, scanners and the like. If you haven't already switched to CFL bulbs........., YOU WILL! ;)

Great little gadget to give you a good idea on what appliances and items you never thought could be costing you are ACTUALLY costing you! My old freezer downstairs was found to be costing me nearly $300/yr! I can get a new one for $20/month from Sears and even with the electric, be spending less per month - and after 2 years, I'll have it paid off and a 2 year old freezer that costs me $55/year to run instead of a 30 yr. old freezer that costs me $300/yr to run! WOW! Just one example, you've gotta get one of these things. It puts it all in black and white and really brings it home.

It was so enlightening to see how much power various products were using. I learned that some things I had been leaving unplugged, such as a shredder on "auto" setting to shred as soon as paper was put in, were not using any power in the standby mode. So I could leave those plugged in. I also found out which items were using significant power. The receiver for our staellite TV uses 30 watts even when turned "off."
As others have noted, it is a little inconvenient to read the display when plugged directly into the wall. However you can use an extension cord.
