I have not used this long, (...) but this really has been great. It was sort of dusty when it came, and I had to wipe it. It seems to attract dust very easily, one of the downsides. Another problem is the back-support for the books is high, and smaller books might easily fall off the shelf if not careful. This is not much of an issue, because you can always put bigger books on the side, and all books up vertically. The good thing, however, was that it took virtually one minute to unpack, and to set up. The side fences can be fold into the center, and the shelfs can be fold up. It came in a heavy and man size though not very thick package. This looks very elegent to me, I don't know why the other reviewer thinks it's "Cheap"?!Customer Review: perfect!!

i desperately needed an inexpensive bookshelf to hold a ton of reference books that i own, but also complement the decor of our living room. well, this was just perfect. the shelves are tall enough to accomodate all of my large books...and even if the lower shelves weren't tall enough, the top shelf is open. personally though, i like to use the top shelf for decoration. i also love the fact that it's open in the back, so the bottom shelf i left for my modem, router, adapter and the cords string easily through the back.
beautiful dark wood color, and it was so easy to set up straight out of the box.
i guess it is in high demand though b/c i had to wait for 3 wks before it was sent to me.

I just received this (dark walnut) bookcase - I already had one in the lighter color. I bought my first one 8 years ago, and it's moved with me to and from boarding school, college, and now my apartment. The folding makes it super easy to pack up and move, but what I really love is that when it's set up it's sturdy, attractive, and creates plenty of space. The open back means I can keep a lamp and radio plugged in with the cords out of the way. I have used these to store books, shoes, art supplies, and vanity items. The angled sides and open spaces keep them from looking overbearing. Can't believe such an inexpensive item has lasted so long and still shows nearly no wear! These were the first items I purchased from the Dolce collection (I bought two). They are easy to assemble and have held up wonderfully in the year that I have owned them. They have great lines and presence in whichever room you set them up in.
I got mine on one of the rare times the Dolce collection went on sale - something like $20 each. Fantastic deal!
Like many other customers, I too was trying to gather the whole Dolce collection only to find they suddenly don't carry them in stores anymore!!! Some items are still pictured on target.direct, so hopefully this is only temporary! I bought this because I got my fill of "make-it-yourself" furniture with all my IKEA brand stuff. This bookshelf looks great and is simple to setup. The shelf comes already built and folded up. All you do is 'open' the shelf up and it's done. It literally takes 30 seconds. Plus, it looks nice and holds a good amount of books, dvds, cd, etc.
The only knock on it that I have read from other reviews is that it came with chips/cracks in it. To me, that's a shipping issue, not an issue with the quality of the product. Blame UPS, not Dolce on that one!
I'm a big fan of this shelf and am ordering another one as I write this!
