Customer Review: Micro Beads are Marvelous!

i became a huge fan of micro bead pillows several years ago when I found one on a sleep solutions site. I can't imagine sleeping on anything else. The first one I had was nylon knit on one side and fleece-like on the other. This pillow has the nylon knit on the entire pillow, but comes with a zip-off fleece-like cover. The advantage of this would be the ability to wash the cover. I keep both pillows in a regular pillow case. By the way, that first pillow has increased significantly in price. I can buy 4 of these for the price of one of those. It's not worth the difference in price.
I have a friend who is currently fighting stage 4 breast cancer. She is spending a lot of time in bed and is experiencing a lot of pain. I gave her 2 pillows, that I bought here but are no longer available, similar to the Cushtie Cushion Pillow - Aqua. She loved them and they are the first thing she wants when she is in the hospital. This was her introduction to micro bead pillows. When I was trying to decide what to get her for Christmas, I thought about these pillows. I purchased 2 of them for her - in case her husband "stole" one. She has really liked these pillows as well. She tells me whenever I see her how much she likes them. I highly recommend them for anyone who has to spend a lot of time in bed.
These pillows are really comfortable. I found there was no "getting used to it" period. It was comfortable the first time I slept on it. It is firm, yet yielding. It will squish into any shape you need. If you want more under your neck, push it there and you will have more under your neck. Mine have not stretched out of shape or lost beads. Maybe it's because I keep it in a regular pillow case. I don't even have the fleece cover on it (I sleep hot). I have bought 5 of these pillows (including the 2 I bought for my friend). I will be very sad if they ever stop making them.

Last year I tried sleeping with one of those neck pillows that have polystyrene beads inside a Spandex strechable covering. It was excellent as I have difficulties with my head becoming hot during the night.
I looked at the normal places like BB&B and could not find a pillow with the beads, and even considered buying several of the neck pillows and emptying the contents into a zippered pillow case.
So, you can imagine how pleased I was to have found a link on-line for the Pike Street Micro Bead pillow at Amazon.com.
This pillow meets expectations for those that have issues with their head becoming hot during the night (we have warmer nights here in Texas).
In addition, the pillow gives suport so that our face/nose is not covered by the edges, like a feather pillow and this makes sleeping through the night more comfortable.
It is easy to adjust the level that you prefer whether higher or lower and your face does not lay on wrinkles that can be uncomfortable. Just squeeze the pillow to raise your head, or push the pillow down to the level you prefer, and it stays there.
So pleased was I with this pillow, it caused me to purchase two more for a total of three - I plan on giving the extra one to a friend. They stack very nicely doubled up on the ends (one on top of the other) and do not slide down when used against the headboard for reading or watching TV.
I agree with other reviews that the pillow case that comes with it causes the pillow to be too firm. For best use, just place the pillow into a pillow case.
My wife likes to put pillows into a pillow protector and then into a pillow case, but I have found that using just one, the pillow case allows for easier control of the pillow height and coolness at night.
I have not had any leakage of the beads, like some others have experienced.
Truly an amazing pillow - BUY ONE - you will not be disappointed.

I was looking for a micro-bead pillow because I heard how "light," "airy" and "cool" it was, as opposed to traditional pillows. I've always slept with high-end goose down pillows (am German). However, down, as comfortable as it is, looses its "loft" after a while, and more importantly, has the tendency of getting hot, especially in the summer.
I actually purchased 5 different microbead pillow products in my "research experiment." The Pike Street Pillow was by far the best constructed. It allows my head to nestle into it. It provides excellent neck support, and keeps its form.
BE FOREWARNED: the pillow may at first seem too high, pushing the head upward (e.g., when lying on your back). I would definitely stay away from the spandex vellour-like pillow cover that comes with it. This cover is simply TOO small, not allowing for the micro beads to expand adequately, thus, not allowing your head to "sink into" the pillow. I have found a larger, polyester, zippered pillow case that works like a charm. Then, find a slightly over-sized polished, high-count cotton (or hemp, or bamboo) pillow case to finish it off.
One final suggestion. I recently discovered that millet hulls will also work quite well. Its advantage: a natural product and it's flame retardant. Disadvantage: it's heavier than the micro-bead pillow, and makes a slightly louder "noise" when turning, or positioning your head. Again, don't have the millet hulls over stuffed. They mostly come with a zippered cover, allowing you to remove excess hulls.

Finally- the perfect pillow!
If you've been searching for a pillow that will firmly, effortlessly and consistently support your head and neck in any sleeping position and yet still feel like the most amazing traditional pillow you've always hoped to find- then this is the one for you!
For years, I've used the Sobakawa/buckwheat pillows. But, they're smaller and flatter. And, unless you could fold it into the exact right position each night, you'd risk waking up with a stiff neck.
With this particular Micro Bead Therapy Pillow, it's the perfect size in every direction and there's no "wrong way" to rest your head on it.
Also, too, with the super-soft velour pillowcase that comes with it, it doesn't slide around on the bed. And, contrary to what the other customers have said, I do feel the case is a perfect fit and meant to "contain" the pillow at exactly the right firmness.
I've spent hundreds of dollars and so many years searching for the perfect pillow that won't shift or bunch or be too soft or too firm.
I was searching for something that would give me the support of a buckwheat pillow, but be gentler to lay my head on- especially during a migraine. And, something I could just toss down and fall asleep on in an incredibly comfortable position every time--- and this is it!!!
My only wish is that you could buy additional pillowcases for it or have a color choice for the velour case.
Customer Review: Great Pillow to Eliminate Neck and Shoulder Pain

I have had extremely tight shoulders and neck for greater than 20 years. I go through ibuprofen by the thousand. This pillow is a little strange at first but it really worked and allowed my neck muscles to relax. For the first time in my memory; my neck and shoulder muscles do not feel rigid.
As many others have commented; you can't follow the pillow instructions about requiring the pillow to be inside the supplied cover. Do that and it gets way too firm. After 7 months I have had to turn the pillow and now use the larger back side, but it is still to firm with the supplied cover. With the current wear I expect to get about 18 months of use out of the pillow. I will make sure I buy another as a replacement before that time. That is a small price to pay for a lot of pain relief. Also there is a styrene smell when you first get the pillow. The smell goes away in a few days, so just wait those few days before using it.
My only caution is that a smoker should not ever smoke in bed with this pillow. The bead are probably made from polystyrene. If they ever catch fire, the large surface area of the beads would make them burn extremely fast.
I have tried a lot of other pillows and the Real Ease neck support, but none have provided any real benefit.
