Tools and Hardware Reviews of Porta-Nail 42620 Flooring Nail/Staple Setting ToolCustomer Review: fairly usefull tool Summary: 4 Stars
It does what its supposed to do. If you drive L-shaped nails when installing hardwood flooring, and the nail doesnt drive all the way in, this is the tool to use. Better than a typical nail set. Has a wider tip for the wider nail head. Good product, worth the extra few bucks.
Customer Review: Flooring Nail Setting Tool Summary: 4 Stars
This nail set is a bit expensive but it does make setting those flooring nails easier. It seems to be made well and is quite heavy duty.
Customer Review: Alright tool... Summary: 3 Stars
I got this, but tried using it with the Bostitch L-Nails. When my gun has an occasional misfire, I'm able to tap the nail down with this set, but it doesn't work as good as I'd like. The set slips off the nail and I've almost found that when driving more than 1/8" it works best to turn the set perpendicular to the nail and just try to bend the nail down into the tongue. Where this set beats a round is because with those nails, it is able to cut into the nail head and drive it in...it just doesn't look as pretty. I've only driven a handful of nails that set correctly.
The set works as designed...if they could just redesign the nails and make the heads a little wider, it'd be easier to use this tool. :P
Customer Review: Not worth the price Summary: 3 Stars
I found it difficult to keep the blade of the setting tool on the head of a cleat -- both are very narrow, so the tool slips off easily when using it to set an errant cleat. Frankly, in putting in about 3000 cleats with the PortaNailer, I had only two unset cleats that required using this tool. For that little use, I might as well have used a screw-driver as a setting tool. The PortaNailer does such a good job of punching the cleats below the surface of the tongues that I think you'll find little use for this setting tool
Customer Review: Not as easy as it looks... Summary: 3 Stars
Better than using a standard nail set, but Porta-Nail nails can be problematic to set. Your best bet is to take your time with the Porta-Nailer to get the nail set properly the first time. Hint: Do not let the nailer move at all until the nail is set and the ratcheting ram has reset. A little pricey for a nail set.
