This generator, cheap at the price, is a cut or two above the usual Chinese no-brand product (I own two of those, so I can compare, this unit I set up for a neighbour's new house). The unit provides plenty of power for an entire home, provided you're not running any whole house heat pumps. Assembly, fit and finish are better than usual, screws have washers, all of the screws, connectors, plugs are supplied in the box, and the packaging is perfect, especially considering this unit is (expectedly) heavy - it needed two of us to get it onto a pickup truck, and from there into my garage.
Surprisingly, the control panel doesn't just have the usual controls, it has a master breaker, handy if you need to refill, and there is a very useful (and gas saving) idle control. This takes the unit down to idle speed when there is no load, useful if usage is intermittent, as when the unit is used to power tools, rather than near continuous, as it the case when it is used to power a home during a power cut. Noise level is a bit below average, the unit is well tuned, but then it is CARB compliant and California approved.
As your average 10KW portable generator costs at least $600 more than this unit does, I can only recommend it. Please note I have only run this generator for a couple of hours, next is the conversion to propane, using a DIY kit from US Carburetion in West Virginia.

I purchased the unit in October 2008 and had the first call to service in late January 2009 when ice and show caused wide spread, multi-day power outages. At first operation I discovered that the 50 amp receptacle on the generator was broken internally and as a result power surges were sent into the house. I quickly disconnected and an electrician discovered the broken receptacle ... totally cracked. He replaced it (in freezing ice and snow) and then everything worked fine. We went for three days with generator power. Never an problem after the intial surprise.
But the real motivation for this remark is the great customer service from Amazon. PowerMax gave me the standard, "we only replace the faulty part and you should have called us." No way was I going to freeze my family while I waited for their mail service part delivery. However, when I told this story to Amazon, they offered to totally reimburse me for the cost of the repair, parts and labor, with no hassle.
The generator worked great with long hours of continuous running. And the positive Amazon customer service attitude was the confirmation that I had purchaeed a good generator (after my repair) with superb customer service backup. John Reade, Lancaster, Ohio.

I received this generator in just a few days. Well packaged. delivery truck came right to my house. I did back my flatbed truck up to the big rig and we just slid it on my truck. Cuddos for the driver to call ahead and set this exchange up. We both were happy.
Generator is very quiet compared to a 8,000w I replaced. It is no louder then the 5,000w hondas I used to run.
We are a animal rescue and transport our adopted dogs and pups to New england from Tennessee. We must run A/C's and purifiers etc at all times. It does have a very sensitive oil level kill switch, and traveling on the road was tripping to often. I did disable the switch with diligent oil checks. I am experiencing a slight oil leak at shaft seal(before oil switch removal). It was an overfill on our part. Having trouble finding anything on the net about this engine or parts. Still looking for the little pamplet that came with it, it does have parts list.
This is a good generator and would get another if need be.
