Customer Review: No problem if you follow directions & use common sense!

The only problem I've had with this is that I wish they'd made a little lip on the lid to make it easier to pry off--wedging my short fingernails in there between the lid & the rubber gasket is sometimes downright painful, but you can also use something like a knife blade to pry the lid off. I love the fact that it beeps every time it brings the drink back to the set temp--reminding me it's there & to drink it; I'm starting to feel like one of Pavlov's dogs, drinking on the command of a beep! I also love that I can drink my coffee or tea slowly, sipping over as long a period as I want, & have it still be hot.
RE: other comments: 1)Of COURSE you shouldn't have it plugged in with nothing in it! (I'm pretty sure the packaging SAID that.) 2)You won't get the outside wet if you UNSCREW the liner & wash ONLY the liner, like you're supposed to! 3)This is the first one I got & I've used it for a couple of years & it has never overheated/melted/smoked; sometimes when you get down to only having a couple of ounces left in it the liquid gets a little hotter, but that's understandable since those last couple of ounces are down in the metal bottom of the liner right next to the heating element. 4)I have occasionally had some trouble with the plug in the cigarette lighter of fleet cars I drive not seeming to be keeping a solid connection (you wiggle the plug & the lights on the mug flash on briefly), but I always assumed the problem was the car, since they're old vehicles. I also discovered that sometimes when I thought the cig. lighter outlet wasn't working because no temp was showing in the window on the mug, it was just that I hadn't yet hit the button to set the temp.
Maybe the reason for the vastly varying reviews is that not all of these are being manufactured in the same place?
And since Amazon put my business name on this, let me assure you that no, I do not sell these.

A couple of things to note.
1. If you were thinking the mug is stainless steel. It is not, rubber outer and the base has rubber, which works pretty good too, very soft when you put it down.
2. You actually pay $28.50 for this mug including shipping and tax. So you are not actually spending around $20.
3. It really works! gets your drink hot all the way from cold. I did it with milk and stopped at 120F was nicely hot, you can go to 160F i think.
4. Takes a while to heat up. Not in a flash, but not too long either.
5. It wont keep your drinks hot for too long like a stainless steel thermos when not plugged in.

Got this gimmicky item 3 years ago for christmas and almost laughed but have used it daily (over the winter) for three years and loved it.
Shopping for a new one now, it finally broke (as all electronics do).
It seems no one really has this heated mug technology down but I'm going to place my bet on this mug again even if I have to replace it a few times.
Sorry to hear about the poor reviews but i had great luck.

My wife has used this a couple of times since purchase and reports that it works well for her. The highest setting makes it too hot for more than sipping. One caveat: because of its size, it teeters in the cupholder in her minivan, so she has to keep one hand on the mug when driving. I have never had a problem with this product. It does what it says it will do, and quickly. I only wish it where a tad shorter and wider instead of so tall and skinny. In a cup holder it doesn't matter, but if set it on a table it could easily be knocked over. Great for road trips!!
