Tools and Hardware Reviews of Analog Hygrometer 2.25" by Western HumidorsCustomer Review: Can beat the accuracy and price Summary: 5 Stars
I thought it was pretty close since I compared it to a friend's $35 digital hygrometer and it was within 1%. I also did the salt test in a sealed bag and it read exactly 75% as it was supposed to.
You can check the calibration yourself with about 2 cents worth of salt and a Ziploc baggy. Just google -> hygrometer calibration salt <- and you will find dozens of links on this easy test.
I am really pleased with this purchase since it lets me set my furnace humidifier at the correct level for the winter.
Customer Review: Great value and accuracy but not easily adjusted. Summary: 5 Stars
For its ridiculously low price, it's plenty accurate. It tested within 1 percentage point right out of the box, but when I tried to calibrate it the little adjustment screw on its back proved very imprecise. With the slightest touch of a small screwdriver, the needle jumped too far too fast. Buy it and test it with a cheap calibration kit (like Boveda one-step calibration) but don't mess with the screw. Simply remember if it's one degree too high or too low and be glad you got it for a few lousy bucks!
Customer Review: Terrific little hygrometer Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this hygrometer because I needed something small enough to fit in my guitar cases to keep up with the humidity in them. The size is perfect for my needs. A friend ordered a much more expensive instrument. Hers is a little more accurate, but we kept them together for a day or so, and while this one didn't have the same results, they were consistently different. I now know what to add to get the proper reading, and I saved about $25.00 by choosing this one!
Customer Review: Perfect size...thanks! Summary: 5 Stars
Just what I had in mind - an inexpensive analog hygrometer to measure the humidity in the house. I'm just not sure that all the sites that explain how to calibrate have it 'just-so'. The total wrapping in moist cloth gives broad parameters. The enclosure in a moist-salt baggie is similarly not perfect. I still have no idea EXACTLY what the humidity is. But this is 'way better than that weird beeping digital thing I got with my new in-furnace humidifier.
Customer Review: perfect for alaska homes Summary: 5 Stars
when we tighten up our houses in alaska we need to know if we've created a humidity problem. after a few days with a couple of these very inexpensive devices, i know where i need to add exhaust fans and where i don't. i installed dehumidistat switches on the bathroom fans to go on whenever it's over 40% r.h. the dehumidistats agree with these little babies almost exactly. for the money, they are awesome. i'm getting them for christmas presents.
