Tools and Hardware Reviews of RAD Cycle Products Ceiling Mount Bike HoistCustomer Review: Installation and Safety Tips Summary: 5 Stars
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION.
Get some chain with a quick release connection so you can create a safety cable. The way the hooks attach to the bike, it's too easy for it to slip off. The bikes have already slipped off and were saved by the safety cables I had. I happened to have a safety cable lying around and I wouldn't have it any other way. The hooks that come with the system already have the holes to attach the cable to.
INSTALLATION TIP.
Whether you are setting up the system parallel or perpendicular to the studs, first "build" the system using a 2x4 as suggested with the perpendicular stud drawling (Drawling 3). Then lag the entire unit as one into the ceiling. It's much easier.
Other than that, I like the system very much. It works great.
Customer Review: ceiling Mount Bike Racks Summary: 5 Stars
These racks were great. Easy to put up, work great. I was having problems with space in my pole barn due to bicycles setting around. I have a Mountain bike and a Road bike. My wife has a bike and we have two bikes for the Grandkids. I was constantly having to move bikes around to get at different items on my work bench. Now I have the bikes suspended from the ceiling and have all the room I need to move around. When I am ready to ride it is simple to lower a bike down and use it, then return it to it's place on the ceiling when I am finished. It is also easy to work on the bikes by lowering them to where I want them and working on them at eye level without having to worry about them falling over.
Customer Review: Excellent value! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased four of these hoists for a small adult road bike, a large adult mountain bike, a small adult mountain bike, and a child's bike. They easily lift and store all sizes of our bikes. Even my 10-year old can get his bike up and down using the hoist. They have a great locking mechanism so you don't have to tied the rope down to secure the bike in the up position, and you can use it to securely "hold" the bike on the way up or down if you need to. The rope seems a bit skimpy, but as other reviewers said, can be easily replaced if it starts to fray. Phenomenal value at $14.95.
Customer Review: Very nice ceiling mount Summary: 5 Stars
I did a lot of research and bought this mount based on the reviews. This was NOT a quick and simple project like hanging a flat panel TV. This installation took some time to do all the measuring, finding the joist location in the attic, pre-drilling holes, painting the 2X4, etc. but it looks and works great. My only advice is to take your time and measure several times. We did not use the supplied screws we used longer wood screws for the 2X4 and better quality screws for the mounting plates. We also bent the hooks a little bit to hold my bike seat better.
Customer Review: Very satisfied Summary: 5 Stars
I bought four sets of these and installed two in my garage. I installed them on an eleven foot ceiling for two beach cruiser bicycles. I measured from the back of the seats to the handle bars and used this measurement for the installation. I did not find it necessary to bend the hooks or make any changes except that I did use my own wood screws. These hooks work perfectly for what I need them for. I plan on installing the other two sets this fall for two more bicycles and am confident that they will work just as well. I would recommend this product.
