I bought this lantern to - go ahead, laugh - light a dark closet that was far from an outlet. I had previously tried those stupid hockey puck stick on lights and also those fake lightbulb-looking stick on lights - neither were bright enough to be of any use, and ate batteries like they were potato chips!
I saw some good reviews on this lantern, and figured it could also do double duty for blackouts - which indeed it has, very well, several times. Also used it on my patio for additional lighting during a few evening dinners.
Best things about this lantern:
- compact size
- the bright, *accurate* color light it sheds
- sturdiness
But best of all is how LONG the batteries last! Admittedly, I'm generally not leaving it on for very long at a time, but still, I'm very impressed. I've had it for over a year and I'm not sure I've had to change them yet!

This is a very bright and compact light; It really delivers. It's moderately light in weight with only three (3) D-size batteries. It's great for the car, garage, fishing, or camping.
It took a couple of tries to get the battery cap back on. I looked at the pictures and that really helped; It's not that hard. But I do acknowledge that it would be quite difficult to replace in total darkness.
There is a hook underneath the lantern which allows you to suspend it upside down. The hook is an open-ended 'J-frame' syle. It should be an enclosed ring.
The blinking light is useless unless you are looking straight at it. But I think that the batteries would explode before the blinking light depletes their energy; It uses hardly any.
Especially for the cost, BUY THIS LIGHT. You will not be able to wait to get chance a to use it!

I am very happy with this LED lantern. I was surprised at how compact it is, but don't let that fool you - it packs a punch of brightness where ever you need it.
I think the battery replacement was not as difficult as other reviewers made it seem. If you made it through kindergarten you should have no problem matching up the shapes.
The hook is also solid and will easily hold the weight of the lantern.
The green blinking LED in the front is so dim that it is hard to see it in complete darkness. I like this fact because it means that the little blink of the LED won't keep me up through the night. I also like knowing that the batteries are still in there.
Yes this is a great purchase for a great price and it only requires 3 D-cell batteries. Very pleased with my purchase. Fast shipping too!

IVE BOUGHT 2 OF THESE LANTERNS NOW AND FROM ITS CONSTRUCTION, TO ITS PERFORMANCE-(LIGHT OUTPUT) AND VERSATILITY THIS IS A VERY VERY GOOD RATIO ON MONEY-CAPABILITY SCALE. IN A GOOD SIZED ROOM WITH SHADES PULLED DOWN + NO POWER, FROM THE OUTSIDE YOU COULD NOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE LANTERN VRS THE AC/LAMP WE NORMALLY RUN IN THE ROOMS. IN A CAMPING SCENARO IT HAS A SNAP OUT HOOK TO HANG IT UPSIDE DOWN IN ORDER TO THROW A MAXIMUM RADIUS LIGHT FOOTPRINT. LASTLY IF YOU FIND YOURSELF BROKEN DOWN ON THE SIDE OF A ROAD, IT HAS AN EMERGENCY FLASH SETTING TO MAKE ANYONE AWARE THAT YOUR EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS, AND THE USAGE TIME IS ALSO VERY GENEROUS, DEPENDING ON WHAT SETTING IS ACTIVATED. One of life's non-pleasures is the occasional power failure. Since I don't keep a couple dozen Yankee candles handy, I decided to try this lantern.
I found it to be unique for its compact design, sturdy construction, and LED illumination. This creature IS bright and lights up the better part of a room to help manage a power failure. I have a Coleman lantern with a fluorescent U-Tube and didn't think this Rayovac would be its equal. I was wrong.
The requirement of 3 D-cells instead of 4 was also welcome, at the exorbitant price of D-cells. The life expectation of 75 hours on the high setting was also quite welcome.
If power failures make you blue, this will be a good purchase decision. If you're also a camper, then this is a no-brainer.
