Tools and Hardware Reviews of Reliable Steamboy T1 Steam Floor MopCustomer Review: Possible Reasons for Differences in Reviews Summary: 5 Stars
Steamboy is great. The reason for some of the differing feed back: No cloth glides over a dirty floor so depending on how dirty your floor is, it may not glide very well. Which works to our advantage, if it doesn't glide then you have found a very dirty spot! A few complained that it was too bulky, heavy or awkward to use. That is probably the difference of age. I'm in my 60's so for me it seems heavy and a bit awkward, however for my daughters it would be light and very easy to manage. Same would apply with putting on the cleaning pads. It requires a strong pull on the strings to make sure it is tight. For the elderly they may not have the strength to get it tight enough or even to push down the button (attached to the string) that holds it tightly and releases it
My kitchen floor is almost 500 sq feet. Needless to say any type of cleaning on a floor this size is a serious chore at my age.
It doesn't seem to make the amount of steam one expects. But that in no way interfers with the cleaning of the floor. The steam is there whether or not we see it pouring out from underneath the cleaning head. And it does what it is suppose to do....cleans the floor very well without chemicals. It really does lift off dirt and food stuck to the floor with very little effort. I had one very small spot I had to push back and forth over (in the old fashioned mopping motion) to get it up and on a floor this size you know there were lots of spots but they all came up without any extra pushing of the steamboy. I have a large dog and around his dish was dried on food that came off with literally no work on my part. The Steamboy did it without any effort from me.
The cord on mine is fairly long or seems to be, I have plug-ins all over my kitchen so it wasn't a problem.
I agree it should come with a small stand to set it in. Considering the size of my kitchen I cannot just stand there and hold it when I'm too tired to push it any more. I used a counter mat (the things used to set hot pans on so you don't burn your counter tops). I just tossed a small one on the floor and when I sat down to rest, set the steamboy on the counter mat and unplugged it until I was ready to start again.
Assembly really was easy, you just screw in two screws and you're ready to go. And they send extra little black rings in case you need to replace the ones in the water reservoir.
Once you get the hang of using the Steamboy you will understand the differences in some of the feed back concerning the water on the floor and how often to squeeze the trigger. Assuming one has a model that isn't defective. You do have to squeeze the trigger, on first use, enough to get the pad wet and therefore your floor will have more water on it but no more than you would have from some types of mops. The corner I started in was wetter than any of the rest of my floor. When I was done there was still a few spots not quite dry in that corner but the rest of the floor was completely dry. Remember the size of my floor, it took a while before I got done.
I like it, as I told my daughter, this is almost the cleanest I've seen this floor since we bought it. It is commercial linoleum like they use in department stores. On my hands and knees I can get it this clean but my knees can no longer take the abuse! So, if it is clean you want then I highly recommend the Steamboy.
