I actually bought my auto-shift drill at a flea market used from the original owner. I wanted another 18 volt charger for my Ridgid compact drill and recip saw (Hom Dep kit). I took a chance and paid $75 for this drill, a charger and the "large" Li-ion battery (which was "branded" refurb into it). I just finished using it on a couple month long job and am very impressed with it. The chuck is awesome, the best I've ever had by far (it's the longer metal style chuck), much better than the Ridgid compact drill's with the shorter chuck, my newish 18 volt ni-cad Dewalt, etc. I actually gave my 18 volt Dewalt away on this job as I just never liked it - too bulky and heavy and poor chuck. I've had a 14.4 volt Dewalt for a long time and like it much better than the 18 volt Dewalt! Besides the chuck, the clutch is very nice and I like the balance of this big Ridgid drill. It is on the heavy side, but not nearly as tiring to me as the big Dewalt was. For the best performance, I use the larger battery that I got with it; the compact 18 volt battery doesn't power its motor as well or nearly as long as the larger one. I'm glad I took a chance on this drill!
