We've used buckwheat hull pillows for years and our old ones needed replacing. It's amazing that they are not more readily available. Yes, they are smaller than an average size pillow, but they provide a completely different sleep experience. You can buy them in a larger size, but I really don't think it would improve anything. This size seems better for the head support. If your head or neck perspires at all when you sleep (my husbands head does and my neck sometimes does..) these are great to help keep you cool and dry. You can mold them to help support your head, and if you are a side sleeper they don't smush down on you. There isn't a lot of noise ~ I think it's a soft and comforting sound. Once you get it in the position you want there isn't any more unless you move a lot. I have painful shoulders and also prefer to sleep on my side ~ not a good combination except with this pillow! It supports my head so I don't end up with a sore neck or more pain in my shoulder. The only problem we have with it right now is that they're new and have a bit of dust we've had to shake out. We buy regular sized pillow cases and sew them down to the smaller size. They're smaller size also makes them easier to travel with, but they do weigh a bit more. For us there is nothing better for head and neck support, but we do use regular pillows as 'hug' pillows. =D
