Customer Review: Finding wall studs is the hardest part

I hung this by myself & it turned out to be a little bit of an ordeal but the rack was not at fault. We have an OLD house and the studs are not 16" apart, like the rack is made for. Turns out our studs are 17.5" apart....lol.... plus, the Craftsman stud finder I was using had lots of false positive readings....maybe due to the older construction. I ended up using 4" heavy duty nails w/large nail heads UNDER the lip of the shelf, and into the studs, so that the metal sits on these nails. I hammered the nails to within 1/2" of the wall and made sure w/a level that they are exactly even. Then I used all the screws & hardware supplied w/rack in the appropriate places.....so, it looks like it is hung w/the hardware it came with but it is really hanging on the nails.....oh, forgot, I was lucky enough to have ONE stud in the correct spot for the arms above the shelf..... long story (kinda) short, the pot rack is wonderful and it is hung VERY solidly..... my husband was very impressed..... lol....I didn't mention it took me almost 3 hours to figure it out and I had to patch the holes from the false positives w/the stud finder, but I am going to repaint anyway, so don't care.
I have hung 3 very heavy All Clad & Calphalon skillets, + 3 large & 2 small Calphalon pots from the rack. On top I fit all of the lids standing up and on the other side of the top shelf sits the LARGE All Clad roaster and rack that we got for our wedding and use for turkey or ham maybe twice a year..... it all looks fantastic and is very, very solid....
As another reviewer said, I am so happy to have all these pots up where I can see them, use them easily and "get them off the floor".....
I would definitely recommend this rack and would buy again, even with an older house and awkward studs......
