The Perfect Steam comes with a platinum soleplate for effortless glide and incredible durability. It has a sleek teardrop shape, a full-length button channel, and an anti-drip design. Rowenta also equips the iron with three-way automatic shut-off: after 8 minutes if left vertically, 30 seconds if left horizontally, and 30 seconds if tipped over. Large and comfortable in the hand, the iron holds up to 13 ounces of water at a time in a translucent tank. The tank?s opening is among the cleverest on the market--a tidy lid pushes in for filling and releases for closure. The iron also comes with an anti-calc system to trap scale and deposits that could interfere with its performance. The DX-9800 has been engineered around major technical innovations of the three core functions of an iron: heat, steam, and the soleplate. The Intra Steam system "pulses" the steam, creating the perfect cycle of steam and pressing. The Thermo Control system uses an electronic sensor that measures and maintains an even temperature in the soleplate.  The Platinium soleplate combines outstanding glide and non-stick, non-scratch properties. Its stainless steel core coated with ultra-thin silicate coating for a tougher, smoother surface with excellent non-stick and non-scratch properties.

The revolutionary Intra Steam system forces pressurized steam deep into the garment, "pulsing" the steam at regular intervals for the perfect cycle of steam and pressing. The DX-9800 has a number of other features designed to make ironing easier and more successful. The iron?s Thermo Control is an advanced electronic thermostat for accurate control of soleplate temperature. Also, the Anti-Drip function helps prevent spitting and leaking when thermostat is on a low setting, while the Anti Calc function neutralizes harmful minerals, extending the life of the iron, and the burst of vertical steam feature provides effective wrinkle removal on all types of fabrics.

This iron, like all Rowenta irons, is ergonomically designed for comfort, with thumb grips and index finger grooves, and easily used by both left and right handed user,. Its new comfort handles is soft and resilient, with silicon rubber pads that provide support and relieve pressure at key contact points between hand and handle. The non-slip texture and pattern provides a firm grip for precision control.

  I bought a Rowenta DW9080 Steamium which just came out in late 2010. It is phenomenal and I can recommend it as a professional tool that provides the best ironing results available. I wanted to share my new found discovery with friends by giving the Steamium model as gifts, but they are too expensive for me to give to the several friends that I care about the most. Sooo.... I did a little research and found this 5 year old model which has been factory reconditioned on Ebay. It originally sold for 140.00 and the reconditioned ones are 45.00. The DX9800 Perfect was the top of the line most advanced Rowenta at the time with interesting advanced features which are described in the Amazon review pages for this iron. I ordered a few, and of course had to have one for myself. Believe it or not, the sole plate glides even better than the newest model, but the intra steam is not as effective as the Steamium which is interactively manually controlled with a steam trigger under the handle like tailors and drycleaners use. It really gets stubborn wrinkles out of even thick cotton sheets. I do like the design of the Perfect, and the control on the front upper part of the handle is super convenient and leaves the space under the handle less obstructed unlike the newer models which have the temperature control under the handle. The intra steam bursts of steam are unbeatable.... even stronger than the burst of steam feature. Fabulous! The iron glides better than any other brand or other Rowenta iron I've ever used. I have not experienced the leaking problems as noted in other reviews, and the answer to avoiding brown spots is to use bottled spring water every time when ironing starting with the very first time you use it. The sole plate on the Perfect is thicker than the newer models and doesn't get under buttons as easily as the newer models, which feature the new precision tip allowing detailed access while ironing to small areas that would otherwise be difficult to reach without bunching up the fabric.
  In conclusion, I will use this classic beauty with all of it's innovations on some of my ironing needs, and the new Steamium on most of my ironing jobs. Hands down, though, the Steamium is the best iron ever made... read my review on Amazon. It's well worth the money, and should last many years with proper care. It is fascinating to see the evolution of Rowenta's design and functionality by using several of their top of the line products from different periods in the line's ever increasing perfection.
