Description of Safety Beam - Invisible Infrared Beam Alert / Alarm

You can know when someone "crosses the line". This high tech device creates an invisible infrared beam up to 60 ft. long. When the beam is crossed a loud alarm or a pleasant chime sound will be emitted. Can be used as an invisible playpen to alert you to your child or pet leaving a safe area. The alarm can also be used at night to scare off would-be intruders. In the chime mode, retail stores in businesses can use it to announce customers are alert them when someone enters an area that is "off limits". You can choose to have the chime sound only one time (when a customer enters a store for example) or the chime can sound continuously until you turn it off (when a customer enters an area that is "off limits" or at home when a child leaves a safe area for example). Distance can be sent to high or low- maximum distance 60 ft. In the chime mode, volume can be set to low, medium, or high. Two AC adapters are included. Three AA back up batteries are not included.

Customer Review: NOT a typical motion detector!!! beware

This may quite possibly be the world's worst product. I bought this expecting a traditional motion detector, where I could plant the transmitter out in my yard, then have my receiver inside to hear if anything tripped the beam. Unfortunately, the description of the product doesn't mention this important fact: both the transmitter AND the receiver must be pointed towards each other, not more than 50 feet apart in order for the system to work! In other words, there is NO receiver you can plant at a distance to hear if the beam is broken, BOTH components must be pointed at each other, or it won't function.

These don't appear to be weatherproof at all, and the instruction are a poorly-written translation, not complete or descriptive, and full of typos. The volume of this thing is so friggin loud that even in the SOFTEST setting, I had to put 2 layers of tape over the speaker so it wouldn't give me a heart attack every time it went off.

All in all, a strange product that I can't imagine having very many uses. Maybe like the previous reviewer said, scaring cats off the counter, or something. But try using it in a shop to annoucne customers, and they'll likely have a heart attack right there on the spot when they hear the crazy-loud chimes go off. I wanted a regular motion detector which would shoot out an infared beam that, if crossed, would sound an alarm on the receiver which I could put down anywhere. I had no idea this product doesn't even come close to fufilling that need.
