Tools and Hardware Reviews of Leviton 6124H-W Leviton 6124H-W Decora LCD Timer Switch (24 Hour), WhiteCustomer Review: RTFM Summary: 5 Stars
I almost didn't order this great little switched based on several of the completely flawed reviews people have posted here. One person complained that the over ride switch only worked until the next 30 minute segment. True, but if that person had read the manual, they would have noticed that if you held the button down for 5 seconds (instead of just pushing it), that the switch will go into a "hold" mode that over rides all the programming until the next day - at which point the switch automatically flips back into its normal mode of operation (i.e. it follows the program you have setup again).
The person who mentioned something about needing a red wire for installation doesn't know what they are talking about (no offense). The wiring diagram clearly shows a straight forward / standard light switch wiring configuration. All you need is ground (green), common (white) and hot (black). At worst you might have to gang two wires on a common, but that's nothing exotic or out of the ordinary.
Still another person complained that you cannot reset the program. Actually, you can. If they had read the user manual, they might have seen where holding down the two outside buttons for 5 seconds will reset the existing program and clear the unit's existing program.
Take 3 minutes and read the manual. This switch looks first class from what I can see and I'm about to place my order.
UPDATE: the switch is installed and working fine. I have uploaded a couple of images showing it in action. I use the switch in the following manner. It's programmed to turn the outdoor flood lights on automatically at around 5:30 or 6:00 pm and then shut them off around midnight. This is handy, because if we are out of the house and come home late, we know the lights will be on for us. If we are home and the lights come on around 5:30 or 6:00, but we don't feel like having them on, then it's just as easy to press down (for 5 seconds) the over ride button and turn the lights off for the evening. This over rides the programming for the night, until the next day - at which point the switch is back to its normal mode and ready to turn the lights on for us all over again. Works great and the installation is easy as can be.
