Tools and Hardware Reviews of SOG Specialty Knives & Tools F01T Tactical Tomahawk, Black

Customer Review: Great for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

Got this for camping and such. As a test I took it out last year on a firewood gathering trip. We dropped about 2 cords worth that day and I used this tomahawk on every limb about 1 inch dia. or less. Any bigger than that and it just doesn't have enough weight behind it. In an emergency It'd work fine to chop larger limbs and logs, just be patient. I showed it no respect, throwing it around in the dirt and the back of the pickup. Happy to say it held up great. Blade is still nice and sharp and the whole thing is still solid. I don't plan on using it for throwing so as long as I limit it to camping duty it should last a good long time. The cover is nice and secure, maybe too secure. It's a little slow to remove so for tactical use probably not the best choice. Still, the blade is pretty sharp so it's nice it comes with a cover.

Customer Review: One of the best blade deals on Amazon
Summary: 5 Stars

It's the coolest looking blade I own, I wish I had bought two. It's a one handed tactical hatchet so it would be awesome to have one for each hand. I would like to have an extra also to practice throwing, but don't want to risk messing up this one. And someone said the back point isn't sharp, well it is. The blade part comes hair shaving sharp and the spike you could press your finger on it without cutting it, but it wouldn't take much to stick it in wood. Neither part needs sharpening out of the box. The hammer part is nice, but not as effective as an actual hammer of course; would be sufficient in camping situations like tent spikes or a few nails. Great light weight handle. I'm going to buy some gloves though to get more grip. I think in wet conditions it could slip.

Customer Review: Very Good Working Tomahawk - Highly Recommended
Summary: 5 Stars

This SOG "F01T Tactical Tomahawk" far exceeded my expectations in functionality and quality! My son and I have taken up knife throwing as a hobby and decided to try our hands at a tomahawk, with much better than expected results considering this isn't specifically designed for that function. We will likely eventually look for a slightly heavier model with a larger blade area for throwing, but are very pleased with this all around excellent tool. Here are my observations:

+ Light; comes in at right around 1.5 lbs
+ Strong; thrown a lot, with no sign of damage
+ Sharp; ships razor sharp, seriously!
+ Practical; a very good camp tool

I really have nothing bad to say about this one!

Highly Recommended!

Customer Review: Great product at a great price!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've seen this particular model on eBay for $50! Can't beat the price Amazon has set on this one! This tomahawk ships extremely sharp, after I unpacked it; I took it out side and started chopping wood. This thing chopped right through a 15" diameter chunk of wood without much fuss ( using proper chopping technique ).

The only caveat that I see with this product is the pointed end I'd prefer this to ship much sharper as it didn't stick into wood like I had expected. I have sharpened it with a diamond sharpener that alleviated this issue. This axe is very light I have attached it to my pack for backwoods camping. The I'm skittish of the handle because I don't really trust the composite albeit it appears very sturdy.

Customer Review: Great functional Tomohawk/Tool
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this item primarily for protection but with the added benefit of using it for search, rescue and emergency situations. It has a great feel. It feels solid and it's razor sharp out of the box. The sheath is perfect for quick deployment. The balance, the feel, the look, and the functionality of this tool make it a good investment. The handle certainly held up to the punishment I inflicted on it as I used it to help "redecorate" our guest loft. An axe might work better at punching through walls and doors but the weight of this thing makes it much more convenient. I can see why the military loves these so much and why pay $400 for one when you can get one that functions just as well...you just might have to resharpen it more often.
