SOG Flash I Straight - edge Folding Knife. More on S.A.T.: SOG Assisted Technology works through the balance of opposing high-tension coil springs. SOG Assisted Technology Increases Speed, Safety, and Usability
When you go to unfold the FSA-7's blade, SOG's patented S.A.T. (SOG Assisted Technology) takes over. High-tension coil springs propels the blade open, so you can easily access the FSA-7's blade with just one hand.
Additionally, the unique design of S.A.T. offers security and peace of mind by incorporating locking mechanisms that are stronger, more reliable, and easier to access than other mechanisms. For Flash Series knives, this means the blade is held in place with a reliable piston lock that can be quickly released with a sliding button. An additional safety lock offers extra security when the blade is closed, and for easy reference, the lock switch shows red when the knife is ready to be opened.
Cryogenic Heat Treatment Guarantees a Sharp, Dependable Blade
The FSA-7 offers a full, 2.5-inch, satin-finished, AUS8 stainless steel straight blade that has undergone SOG's proprietary Cryogenic Heat Treatment process, which ensures that the blade will stay sharp over the long haul. This intensive process takes more than 48 hours and involves slowly reducing the blade's temperature to less than -300 degrees Fahrenheit, then slowly heating the blade to room temperature. The stress created by this process strengthens the steel on an atomic level and increases the blade's overall durability and edge retention.
Ergonomic, Lightweight Design Ensures Comfortable Use

Customer Review: Things you need to know, very nice every day carry knife.
Summary: 5 Stars
The knife is very small. The scales are sculpted for smaller hands. I am 6'2" and large framed, and the handles are so small that the knife feels too small in hand. The finger grooves are so small that I cannot get two of my fingers in the grooves. This does not make it uncomfortable, just something to note about the ergonomics of the knife.
My knife came as sharp as most quality USA made knives that I have experience with, namely Case, Buck and Kershaw. That is a good thing, the knife is sharp enough to do rough shaving, but it is not razor sharp. A little work with a DMT fine/extra find and some stropping and it does a little better at shaving. The profile is very right for a all-around use knife.
The knife is extremely light, and goes completely unnoticed in the pocket. The clip is designed so that the knife is completely enveloped in the pocket, only the clip shows.
I have already snagged the clip on something that bent it away from the handle, which I corrected by taking the clip off and carefully bending the clip back in place. This clip is well designed, I did decide to bend the round end of the clip slightly toward the handle to make it less likely to snag on things while the knife is being carried, which also made it a little less noticeable in-hand while the knife is in use.
Since the knife is designed for tip-up carry, it has a lock to prevent it from accidentally opening in your pocket and then slicing your hand open when you reach into your pocket and come up with the sharp edge of the blade. I do not use the lock, as for me it requires two hands to operate, nullifying the benefit of one-hand opening. The blade does not seem likely to come open accidentally with the blade "unlocked".
The handle material at first seemed cheap, but it has grown on me and I have found that it is plastic and ground glass to make it durable. Good stuff.
The one thing that I do not like about this knife that I have not seen mentioned in any other reviews is the fact that it rattles. The sliding actuator for the blade unlocking device rattles whether the blade is deployed or not. This does not impact the utility of the knife, but if rattles bother you (they drive me nuts) then you should be aware. I am not sure why SOG does not engineer some sort of spring-detent for the button, which would cure this rattle and make the knife seem a lot higher quality.
In a nutshell - great small knife of a very high quality for the approx. $40 price. Made in the USA. Great clip, decent blade of mid-grade steel. It seems to hold the edge in routine cutting chores. The knife rattles, and I did have to adjust the pivot to clean up a minor amount of lateral play.
This is one of my favorite everyday knives, I also have a Kershaw Centofante which is about the same size and feels a lot better quality (no plastic), but it is heavier and does not have a clip system. I also compare it to a Chinese-made Smith and Wesson Cuttin Horse, which is not assisted and is a liner lock. The SOG compares favorably with any knife I have used of this size and intended use.
The SOG Flash I is an excellent knife that you will be proud to own and use.
