Tools and Hardware Reviews of Schlage BE365VPLY505 Plymouth Keypad Deadbolt, Bright BrassCustomer Review: Clever Idea in an Electronic Lock Summary: 5 Stars
Works as advertised, and has a couple of fun features not mentioned overtly :
If the lock is open, you can set the dead-bolt from the outside of your house by pushing the "Schlage" button in the top center of the keypad, giving you about 15 seconds to set the lock.
When locked, the Schlage button turns on the full keypad illumination in a really cool blue back-lighting, surely a great help at night.
And you will need a 2 1/8" hole in your door to properly install. Imagine my surprise when it didn't fit my 2" hole despite the package saying it would fit all "standard" deadbolt installations.
Still, a very worth-while purchase and the value is there if you want a lock which looks high-tech, installs fairly easy, and cannot be "bumped" without knowing the code. Looks, security, and strength in one brassy package. I like.
Customer Review: Love this Lock Summary: 5 Stars
When it arrived- I was a little worried that it would fit with my storm door- but it fits without any problem. I installed this in about 30 minutes- by myself- without any problem. I had a little bit of trouble reprogramming it to a personalized pin number- but gave the 800 number a call- got an actual human that spoke English... well... :-) - he said his name was Nick and I actually think it probably was. He was very helpful- I had to make a minor adjustment in the lock- he walked me thru the steps and then I was able to program it without any problem. It was missing one of the finishing screws that went to the back cover- but I called Schlage (Nick) and they said they would mail me the missing screw. I installed this by myself- didn't have to wait on my husband to do it- without any prior lock installation experience and I LOVE how convienient it is already.
Customer Review: Excellent product worth the money Summary: 5 Stars
I was really glad I chose this keyless entry for my workshop. I've dealt with Schlage products for almost 30 years now. The instructions are extremely easy and all their door knobs have quality in them. Their customer service is wonderful even if you have any kind of problem with their product way down the road. I had so many problems with the Kwikset brand. They have too much plastic in them and they wear out quickly. When ever I buy a new home, I change all the enterior and entry door knobs to Schlage. I've only had 1 problem in the past 30 years and Schlage customer service fixed my problem right away even though the knob was over 5 years old at the time. This door knob has quality written all over it (and you can definently tell it wasn't made in China). Now I don't have to find my keys when I want to go into my workshop. This product is well worth the money.
Customer Review: Install does not require non-standard holes in the door Summary: 5 Stars
The other reviews all sound about right to me, i.e. this product is great! I love it! I just wanted to point out that when I was considering buying it I almost didn't because I rent and I didn't want to put two screw holes in my (landlord's) door. In the photo, there are two screws clearly visible in weird positions. Turns out that they are machine screws that go into a back plate held in place entirely by the normal type of screws that hold door locks together. So no worries about that. Also note that the screws are on the inside as is the battery. You don't want some tweaker to take apart your door lock to steal the 9V battery (included btw) and this lock prevents that.
You can install this lock in 15 minutes pretty easily and put it back to the way it was when you move out. I'm looking forward to taking this lock with me where ever I live!
Customer Review: Best One that I have installed Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this deadbolt for bout a year and I love it. It is th best one that I have come across (and yes - the most expensive - but you get what you pay for). It is eye-catching rather than an eye-sore. Be careful, some of the cheaper competitor's models have a plastic back that is very unappealing for a main door. The unit is smaller than many by requiring only a 9 volt battery because it does not lock/unlock the deadbolt for you. You do it manually.
Pros:
1) Appealing design (front and back - no plastic)
2) Smaller than most (due to use of 9v battery)
3) Keypad lights up when you touch it for nighttime entry
4) Never get locked out. Give the neighbor a temporary code to get in.
Cons:
1) Pricey ut you get what you pay for
