The Roto-Spin features unique characteristics to strip the jacket of electric or communication cables and to facilitate and speed up cable preparation for electrical or fiber optic connections. It has a sliding cable stop which can be set and locked to a specific length. The cable stop can also be removed to strip long lengths. Blade cutting depth is set by a rotating cam. Each notch on the cam has a different height that precisely sets blade penetration. The notched cam can also be turned over for more depth of cut settings. In addition the Roto-Spin has a double vee grooved cable guide that can be rotated 180 for large and small cables. Stripping cable with the Roto-Spin is extremely quick and simple. Press down to open the vee cable guide and insert the cable all the way to the stop. Hold the cable in one hand rotate the tool a couple of times and pull out. The jacket can be easily peeled off since it was ring cut and slit lengthwise. I have been involved in installing a fire alarm system using a 4 conductor jacketed cable similar to a telephone cable, only using number 18 wire. It had been installed into standard electrical boxes without stripping the jacket off, and I was concerned on how to strip it without possibly nicking one of the interior wires, as this would be very hard to replace at this point. I checked out srippers at a couple of local shops, but all that was available, were very expensive, and required a large swing around the wire that was not available to me with the way these cables are installed. I purchased the roto-spin and it is great. The adjustment stop is adjustable from a half inch to four inches, but is also removable to allow longer stripping, which was the case in this application. I am also impressed on how the unit slits the cable jacket all the way down the cable in one application.
The price is right... any downsides?. The knob holding the adjustment stop is a bit fiddley if one wants to remove the stop for longer cable cuts. Other than that, the unit really does the trick.
