I have an 16-month -old messy eater. This sweeper picks up cheerios, wet rice, crumbs of all sorts. In also handles sand on a door mat so well that I feel like I am on a commerical for sweepers!
I was surprised at the poor reviews. The directions clearly state not to leave the unit plugged in all the time. I firgue that could explain the battery and charger problems.
I have been using my 5 times a day for 3 months and no problems to report. It does lose suction when it has to be recharged.
I am online looking to purchase on for "grandma's house" as I can't remember how I managed without "my shark".
Update: Still going strong six months and counting. Ignore the bad reviews and keep yours off the charger!
Update: 10 months of toddler food and no problems. My husband has left it on the charger a couple times, without any impact on performance.
Update; MY SHARKIE DID NOT RESTART. THE OTHER REVIEWERS WERE RIGHT~ NOT A LONG TERM PRODUCT. I BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE, SIX MONTHS GOING STRONG. MORE CRAP IN THE LANDFILL.
Update on Sharkie #2 9/15/2010. Sharkie #2 is still working fine, but I had to duck tape the handle at the joint after my three year folded the unit backwards.
RIP Sharkie #2. Not because of under performing. Simply cosmetically speaking- I could not move by beloved duck taped shark to my new place. Sadly, the new sharks are lavender and I can't quite go there yet.

I really didn't expect much out of this sweeper since it was so inexpensive. I thought it might be good for small crumbs on the carpet in-between times when I bring out my big vacuum. However, I was truly surprized to find out that it cleans like a big vacuum! It picks up large items like jelly beans or pennies left on the rug. I really tested this product out and couldn't believe the power that it had, it's even great on bare floors! I really love it. You can't beat the price either! It came completely assembled except for the handle, and that was easy to snap together. I also love that it's cordless, you can take it throughout the house without having to mess around with unplugging and re-plugging it back in all the time. The only problem I have with the sweeper is that I wish the charge lasted longer. I live in a small apartment and by the time I finish vacuuming 3 very small rooms the sweeper runs out of steem and I have to plug it back in to charge again. I also have to vacuum rather quickly to get all 3 rooms finished before the charge runs out. So, that is a down factor. However, I don't think this sweeper was really meant for deep down cleaning anyway. But, I think it does a great job for the money, and I would not hesitate to give it as a gift or suggest that anyone out there buy it for yourself. I think it's a great deal for the money!!! Ok so I go out and buy one of these little Shark cordless sweepers because the Dirt Devil vacuum I purchased several months ago was such a piece of junk that I can't use it. I'm thinking maybe simple is better but in the back of my mind I'm really thinking this is probably one of those "as seen on TV" rip offs. I get this thing home and assemble it which is very simple. One screw(didn't even need a screwdriver), and just fit the handle pieces together and you're done. After charging it I give it a test run. Hmmm it picks up little pieces of paper off the carpet better than a much more expensive vacuum...impressive. But! after running it over a small area I decided to see what the dust tray looked like and to my shock it was full of all kinda' crap(lint and dust) I didn't even see. Now I'm guessing since it doesn't use suction that it's not pulling everything from deep down in the carpet but I sure didn't see all this crap laying on top of the carpet. I've run this sonofagun over my entire house including hard floors and for the money....this thing is a work horse and a half. If I had to say one thing bad about it it would be that you will have to stop and empty the tray fairly often.Customer Review: Works good for picking up particles, quiet

We needed something to primarily pick up stray cat litter that gets spread across by the paws of our kitty cats. This is over tile, wood floors, and carpet so a device that can tackle all three was nicely welcomed. We previously used a cordless vac and while that worked, it had the quirks of being heavy and very loud so limited use at, say, 2am when I felt like doing some cleaning.
The sweeper here fills the need for my purposes. The rotating brush scoops in particles very well on all three surfaces, far better than I had expected. The unit is so light that even my grandma can pick it up with two fingers. A large reason for the slim weight is that this doesn't have a traditional blower motor, just the rotating brush. As such, fine dust particles do not really get taken in. So if you're looking for something to control fine dirt and dust lodged in carpet especially, probably not the best device to get. But like I said, it works so well for particle removal such as cat litter, food, crumbs, etc. Because there's no blower motor it is very quiet compared to vacuums. I have no fear of using this in wee hours of morning.

I have owned 2 other types of Sharks and they did not pick up much of anything. But because of hand and back problems, based on the good reviews, I decided to give this Shark a try after not being able to find anything else as light as I needed for daily use.
This one picks up Great, as good as the heavy new vac that I had bought for major cleaning, which was Over Double the price of this one. This one even picks up cat litter, which the new and more expense heavy duty 12 amp one does Not want to pick up.
It does a better job on carpet then tile; though if you go slowly on tile it picks up fairly well too.
And it is truly quieter then any vac I have tried before. One of my cats even lies nearby watching it as I use it (though the others still hide).

I bought a 2nd one because I was so happy with my first; but the 2nd one doesn't pick up anything - it moves things around and what little it picks up mainly just goes around the brush a few times just to get dropped back on the floor in the next spot one is at.
