Tools and Hardware Reviews of Smart Strip LCG5 Energy Saving Power Strip with Auto-Switching Technology and Modem/Coaxial Surge ProtectionCustomer Review: Works Good So Far Summary: 5 Stars
According to my wife, we had one minor glitch where the always on plug started going off and the DVR failed to record a program. But since we've restarted the power strip, we haven't had a problem like that since (knock on wood).
Pros:
1 - Two strips saved us between $4 and $6 on our electric bill last month. I say that because I was actively turning out other lights and appliances in my new found awareness. This means the investment will take a year or more to pay itself off. Not bad.
2 - Very convenient. By turning off the TV, everything else just turns off instantly. That saves clicks on the remote so it's added usability.
3 - Good for the environment. ;)
4 - It has a fine-tune adjustment for a computer which has a higher trickle power usage than something like a TV. The adjustment worked perfectly for our computer, scanner, monitor, printer, etc.
Cons:
1 - VERY expensive. Probably worth it though.
Customer Review: Works very well so far Summary: 5 Stars
I was concerned that this wouldn't work for me because I wanted to use my older model rear projection TV as the control device. One concern of mine was that the TV always seems to have a fan running to either keep the lamp cool or dust free and I wasn't sure that the strip would be able to sense that it was turned off. There is also a period (45 seconds or so) between turning off the TV and when it shuts off due to the lamp.
I gave this strip a try because I was tired of having to reach behind the TV and shut the strip off manually, which also created a hassle in training others on how to use the system. After about ten minutes of testing and adjusting, I found that the strip actually works and detects that the TV is turned off as soon as the lamp has finished shutting down. It turns on the devices as expected as well. The strip controls a Wii, DVD player and Karaoke machine.
Customer Review: So Far, So Good Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this item on Oprah a while ago and have been determined to buy one ever since. For a while, they were a bit scarce, but not any more it seems. In any event, I have a lot of computer things, several printers several scanners, and lots of doo-dads that hook into all of these things. Without even exploring the more advanced settings of the Smart Strip, I can say that I am pleased with the fact that when I turn the mother ship off (a.k.a. my cpu) everthing that only functions when the computer is on shuts off as well and I know that in time, that will make a huge difference. I no longer see the many blue indicator lights on peripherals that aren't being used and it's nice. I will be hooking one of these babies up to the TV soon.
Customer Review: The only bad thing about this power strip is the price, in my humble opinion. Summary: 5 Stars
So far I have been really pleased with this powerstrip. The energy savings is a bonus to me. My primary use for this power strip is to turn on super quiet cooling fans in my entertainment center when my amplifier comes on.
It is handy that my TV, and other non-essential devices are completely turned off and not drawing any power when the amplifier is off. I'm glad that my satellite TV box can now stay cool when the rest of my equipment is on.
Besides the price, I guess I would have liked this power strip much better in black instead of white. It doesn't matter because it is inside a cabinet, but if I had to put the powerstrip behind the cabinet it would have been better looking as white.
Customer Review: Smart Strip LCG5 energy saver bar Summary: 5 Stars
Smart Strip LCG5 Energy Saving Power Strip with Autoswitching Technology and Modem/Coaxial Surge Protection
I bought three and fitted them to our two computer systems and to the Home Theater. So far, really, really good. Saves so much messing about with switches and remotes as everything now works with one "action" and the things we want left on all the time, just go into the appropriate places on the bar. Can't say how much energy it all saves as we have solar electric feeding into the Utilities power system, but these days, every penny helps!
