Tools and Hardware Reviews of Smart Strip LCG5 Energy Saving Power Strip with Auto-Switching Technology and Modem/Coaxial Surge ProtectionCustomer Review: great product! Summary: 5 Stars
I replaced a backup UPS with this power strip since I no longer run my computer 24x7 as a server. It works great! I am using it with an intel iMac and have no issues. Just a warning on how it behaves since I've seen a few complaints about the power strip not properly switching off. It sometimes takes a while (several minutes) to shut down my peripherals, even after calibrating. However, I believe this is so that the power strip is immune to fluctuations in the power draw of your control device (e.g. computer). I'm fine with this though. I'd rather that it takes a while to switch off rather than falsely switch off while the computer is on.
Customer Review: Works well, saves energy Summary: 5 Stars
I got this unit to save electricity to help keep my room cooler in the summer. It does its job very well. However, the only downside is that having the Logitech Z-5500 speakers plugged into the switched outlet means that occasionally, the UPS kicks in due to the momentary sag in voltage (not really the unit's fault, although a 1 second delay in switching would be nice).
Pro: works as advertised, saves power
Con: The adjusting knob is very sensitive. Be careful not to put in too many items that use a lot of power at initial turn-on. It does not come with any connected equipment warranty.
Customer Review: Saving the Planet & Saving Money Made Easy Summary: 5 Stars
This product works as advertised. Just plug your TV into the control plug and your DVD player, receiver, video game console, etc. into the slave outlets and viola- you cut the phantom power that these other electronics use when they're "off". I purchased two of these as well as a few other energy saving items a couple of months ago and I have seen a decrease in my power bill. I can't contribute savings completely to the Smart Strips, but I know they make a tangible difference. I definitely anticipate recouping the cost of these in the first year of use, which makes me wonder why anyone wouldn't buy them.
Customer Review: Pefect way to save electricty Summary: 5 Stars
I have to say this simple device is amazing. You plug your computer into the control outlet and plug everything else into the other outlets and when the PC is off, the monitor, speakers, mice, keyboard or whatever else you power with your computer turns off. Much easier than trying to figure out where to put a power strip so you can reach it.
The really helps with those energy vampires that seems to live under computer desks.
I'm saving about 50 watts of power by turning off my speakers when the PC isn't on. (The speakers didn't come with their own power switch.)
Customer Review: In Agreement. Summary: 5 Stars
I agree with most of the other reviewers. I bought three of these and they are easy to install, for the most part working right out of the box without adjustment. I can't tell you how many times the TV gets turned off but the amp and DVD is left on or the Computer is shut down but the speaker/amp, printer and external hard disk are running all day. And the ease of shutting the computer down and knowing everything is shut down as well ..., I love it. Not sure how much energy it saves but I've got solar hot water, solar panels, flourescent bulbs etc., and it's just one more cog.
