Tools and Hardware Reviews of Smart Strip SCG4 Energy Saving Power Strip with Autoswitching Technology and Fax/Modem Surge Protection

Customer Review: works like a charm for me
Summary: 5 Stars

at first I was very skeptical to purchase this strip from reading all the bad reviews It got. The reason why I got it is for my Mame cabinet,as an easy all in one switch solution for when I power on the cabinet. On the control outlet I have my PC hooked up, and on the white outlets I have my marquee light, speakers, and monitor hooked up. I did have to adjust the little sensitivity nob on the side a little to get it to work properly, but it literally took two minutes to find the right sensitivity. Now all my peripherals turn on and off when the PC turns on and off. I'm not sure if people aren't setting it right or aren't even trying to set it to begin with (make sure you read the instructions, the setting knob is allowed to make up to 1 full turn. don't go over that or force it, I only needed a half a turn for my setup, also the instructions state that if you are trying to turn on lights, they have to be at least 40 watt for incandescent, and 7 watt for fluorescent). To me it seemed super easy, maybe I was just one of the few lucky people who didn't get a defective strip. Either way I highly recommend it if you are looking for a solution to turn all your peripherals off at the push of one button.

Customer Review: Everyone needs this product

We have 4 computer stations in our house and they are often left on or the monitors and sound systems are left on, etc. By using the smart switch, the only thing to think about now is to remember to turn the computer off at night or when not in use and then the printers, monitors and sound systems all turn off as well.

Just having the smart switch helps me to remember to shut the computer off in the first place which was something i often forgot.

I did have to adjust the smart switch settings twice until it worked each time and even then, thought it wasn't working when occassionaly things did not instantly shut down when the computer turned off, but then within a half minute, they would all shut off.

Overall, it's great product that definitely helps me stop wasting power.

Customer Review: Great energy saver

Using a Kill-A-Watt, I calculated I am saving about 35 watts of electricty on my home theater. Will pay for itself in 1-2 years. Before you buy, you should know this will only save energy for devices turned off. Also, it works by using a master device that when turned on allows the other devices to turn on. So, in my setup my master device is my television, when I turn it on, it lets me turn on my cable box, dvd player, etc. However, the master device will still draw power and the television turned off still draws about 20 watts. Still, you are saving energy on all the other devices. Great for home theater setups.

Customer Review: Highly recommend this to save energy, works as described!

We have two of these - one for all the stuff for the computer and another for all the stuff for the television. We leave the cable box (so we can record stuff) and the networked printer (so we can print stuff) as the controls. This means that these two devices stay on and everything else stays on. I've been meaning to check out the electric bills to see if we have been saving any money.... but I haven't yet. Anyway, this product is working great and as described. Just make sure you know which spots to plug things into. It's well marked.

Customer Review: Great energy saver!

I have had this power strip for a year. It works as advertised for me--none of the problems experienced by other reviewers. It reliably shuts down all power to selected items plugged into it when the main item is turned off. In my case, it shuts down my speakers, external hard drives, printer, etc when my computer is off, but leaves on my DSL modem and wireless router for my wife to use. It works for me as advertised--I shut down my PC and all of my external peripherals (monitor, hard drives) power down.
