First, I like to thank BLUTEKUSA for speedy shipment - USPS Priority mail.
I have never used a sewing machine until now - I don't even know that I am suppose to hold on to the threads when I start sewing.
I read comments about lack of instruction so I examined how the thread is routed carefully after opening the box. It is great that the machine is already setup as the few page instruction is really meant for folks with sewing experience.
The only instruction on how to use the machine is the "How to mend a seam" page which is really insufficient for absolute beginner. After having to re-thread the needle a few times, I finally get a hang of it. After that I was able to shorten two Khakis pants without problem. The machine sew through three layer of Khaki easily but it does need a little help (pushing handwheel) at the seam (6 layers).

This is a fantastic little machine, given the very cheap price. I bought this so my mom could hem six or seven pairs of pants for my kids, about half of those jeans.
Getting it set up originally wasn't simple- it comes threaded with white, but we needed to use colors. It took some experimentation to figure out just the right tension. But once we figured it out, we had no problem, even changing threads easily. It handled denim well, just strained a bit at the heavier seams where it was going through more than two layers.
It isn't a replacement for a full size machine for the typical sewer, but for me it will be wonderful. And so cheap. Note also that amazon sells this under another product number with a nice little red sewing box for only about [...] bucks more.

I purchased this as a gift for my 12 year old for her birthday, she is a great fan of the TV design shows and wanted a machine to work on her "Projects".
The machine is small but has a cute retro look about it (very important to a 12 year old!!), the instructions are a little vague but as I've previously owned sewing machines we were able to muddle our way through. We haven't had any problems with "tension", perhaps it's the "luck of the draw" depending on how they are set at the manufacturers
She is now sewing her simple designs and is having a blast !
This is a great "first machine", it is easy to use, is portable and is building my daughters confidence in her abilities to create her own designs

I have never used a sewing machine before but have had luck with learning on this. The instruction sheet for loading the bobbin and threading the machine was not really clear but I got it figured out. It is not something you could use on thick material as it hangs up in it, but it is great for small repairs and hemming material. I bought a power adapter later so I didn't have to use batteries.
I would recommend this for anyone that needs to do light repair work but just doesn't have the time or ability to use a needle and thread.
