Tools and Hardware Reviews of Rex Mini Sewing Machine Red

Customer Review: Ideal, takes some getting used to but works great for what it does!
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this to do simple projects for baby (flannel wipes etc) and it worked great. When you take it out of the box take a good look at how it's set up through all the thread guides and read the instruction booklet for tips on how to thread the bottom bobbin etc so you don't get too frustrated. It took a little bit of dexterity and patience but we got it working just fine. I used rechargeable batteries in it and the battery life and strength of sewing was good for me. If you have the right kind of adapter, be careful because it works about 8 times faster off the adapter! Watch your fingers. Only does one stitch, one way, but reverse stitching is easy if you lift the presser foot and move the material backwards by hand. Stitches were pretty firm.
HOWEVER! Treat this baby gently. Don't pull on the needles. We might have gotten a little over-ambitious with our crafts and half way while we were trying to sew three layers of flannel together and had a misfeed that also broke the needle against the plate...it seems to have jerked something out of alignment in the lower bobbin holder and we weren't able to repair it. If you are mechanically inclined though, and have issues, you can easily take it apart by unscrewing the 6 screws and unsnapping the halves to expose all the cogs and wheels inside. (We did but still couldn't figure out exactly what was out of whack)
Overall, we had a little bit of bad luck with ours but would buy another (if we didn't end up getting an actual machine:) and be much more careful with it.

Customer Review: Great little starter sewing machine
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great little starter sewing machine. We got it to sew up little bandannas for our dogs, but I'm sure we'll use it for other things. I really like it, but I'll just say what's wrong with it.

First, the manual is written in broken English and is difficult to follow. It's not the best for learning how to use a sewing machine. We're going to be getting some help from friends who know how to do this better. Also, as another review mentions, it does not come with an AC adapter or batters (4xAA required). Really, however, it's perfect for what it's intended to do; 4 stars only because of these small faults. If I could give 4.5, I would.

On the good side, it comes pre-threaded, and TESTED - there's actually some cloth in the machine that has been sewed (presumably with an AC adapter in the factory). You can begin trying it immediately.

Customer Review: Does the job...
Summary: 4 Stars

This was the first sewing machine that I have ever used. I was kind of skeptical due to the price, but the machine actually does the job. It took me a while to figure out how it was supposed to function because the instructions were very lacking in details.
The stitching came out pretty tight and secure. I've used it on fabrics from bedsheets to denims. The really tough fabrics like the hem (I think) require more patience because the needle will stop. I find that turning it off and on repeatedly will make it slowly stitch. That, or manually assist the needle through the fabric using the dial located at the top with the arrow next to it.
Overall, this sewing machine is awesome!

Customer Review: Nice for quick repairs or small projects
Summary: 4 Stars

We bought this for our 6 year old daughter to learn to sew with, but I've used it a couple of times while my machine is in for repairs. It's not a bad little machine! It has 2 speeds and stops/starts with a button, rather than a foot pedal. It doesn't do reverse and the stitches are just one size, nothing fancy. But, it's just the right size for my daughter and very simple to use. I doubt I would have the patience to use this for making clothes or anything, but for simple repairs or for a nice machine that's inexpensive to teach a little one to sew, this is perfect. I didn't rate it 5 stars only because it didn't come with an a/c adapter, so it runs the batteries down pretty quickly.

Customer Review: Very functional
Summary: 4 Stars

I am not an avid sewer, but am short so most of the pants and jeans I buy are too long. That is exactly why I bought this. It's already to go out of the box!! Works great. Only problems I've encountered was that it comes unthreaded alot and no reverse(that I could find). Also abit tough to stitch inseams of thick jeans. Other than that I love the lil thing!! and now my jeans are hemmed.Yeah!!
