Tools and Hardware Reviews of Soleus Air FTY-25 10-Inch Wall Mountable Table FanCustomer Review: This is a steal! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this after having a disappointing experience with a Holmes Blizzard that sounded like a jet engine. The Soleus is SO quiet! I can barely hear it on the lowest setting and the highest is still very reasonable (don't need to turn up the TV or anything!)
Unlike the model in the picture, mine came with black accents rather than blue (much better, imo) and three knobs/switches: Oscillation on/off, speed and timer. The timer goes up to 120 minutes and doesn't tick like some reviews said. The knobs feel solid, not loose or cheap like a lot of fans.
An interesting feature on this fan is the oscillation design. Rather than the whole head moving from side to side, the blades on the face mesh are shaped so that the airflow is directed in a wide conical motion when the oscillation is turned on. It's sort of hypnotizing :)
My only criticism is that the base of the fan is a bit narrow, and can somewhat easily be tipped over HOWEVER if it does fall over, it automatically shuts off until you pick it up, at which point it turns on again. HOW THOUGHTFUL!
Customer Review: A wonderful fan! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm very puzzeled by another poster's comments about the "ticking timer". With the timer dial turned fully counter-clockwise (marked 'ON', meaning constant running/no timer), the spring in the mechanical timer runs out of steam after maybe 15 minutes and the fan is one of the quietest I've ever had.
I originally bought this fan because of the wall-mounting feature, which I needed to equalize the air conditioning in my home. I planned to mount it in a doorway. Before I had time to hang it, I stuck it on top of the TV at the foot of my bed and it hasn't moved since!!! The rotating grill gives a nice, gentle, cool breeze every 30-45 seconds. Love it!
I could do without all the plastic, but this fan did hard time last summer and hasn't let me down this season. It needs a serious vacuuming, frankly.
Other fans from this manufacturer appear kinda cheezy, but the FTY-25 is a winner.
Customer Review: Great small fan Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this fan to put in our laundry room where we house our border collie while we're away. The fan is perfect for wall mounting and comes with the screws needed for mounting. It did create a problem that the controlls are on one side since my originaly location would have made it so I could never see the controls while mounted. The timer is a nice feature, but I mostly just keep it on all the time. The fan is very quiet and does a good job moving the air. The ocilation function is great, making it especially easy to use when mounted in a confined area like a corner since it doesn't pivot the fan head, instead roatating the angled vents on the face of the fan to blow air in different directions.
I really like this fan and would buy another one in a second if I needed another. But really, its my border collie who apreciates this fan the most.
Customer Review: Extremely quiet, and moves lots of air, but somewhat counterintuitive to use at first Summary: 5 Stars
This is the quietest fan I have ever seen. Even those fancy bladeless fans make more noise. It also moves more air than the noisier fans on the market. If you're looking for something to use while sleeping, especially if you share a bed with someone who is super sensitive to any regular pattern of noise, this is your fan, hands-down.
Now, if you want an oscillating fan, this is probably not for you. The front grill on this one can be set to rotate, and the fins on this grill will cause a slight oscillation as it rotates, but it isn't much.
As a final note, operation is a little counter-intuitive; you must first turn the timer dial to the position marked "on" (which does not set a timer in this particular case), and then operating the on/off/speed dial will work as expected. I was at first worried that the unit was DOA.
Customer Review: Excellent oscillating fan for my baby's room Summary: 5 Stars
I am extremely pleased with this fan, the timer does not make a problematic noise as a previous review had mentioned, so perhaps that person's fan was defective and needed to be returned, I don't know. You can hear it but only faintly. When it shuts off the brief clicking sound is barely audible. This was important to me because its in my baby's room and only about 6 feet or so from his crib. The timer works great, in fact. The fan is quiet, has three settings, and the oscillating feature is optional. All this, and an attractive design as well. It keeps my baby's room cool and comfortable. I have not used the wall hanging feature but its good to know its there just in case. Very reasonably priced too. Best fan I've ever owned. If I ever find that I need another fan I'll buy it again, absolutely.
