I use this heater often when I'm sitting at my computer or watching TV because the baseboard heaters in my apartment take forever to heat up if they are turned off and don't regulate the temperature very well if they are left on. I usually leave it on the low setting, as the high setting is too warm unless it's 8-10 feet away and oscillating to heat up more than one person. (It will take a long time if you're trying to use it to heat up a room; it's designed to heat up whatever it's pointed at!)
It also stays completely cool to the touch; my cats were very curious about it when I set it up initially and I didn't have to worry about them getting too close to it. (Plus it shuts off when it's moved or tipped over, another great feature!)
I'm not sure how well it would work when you're sleeping, as it's fairly bright and any blankets you have on would probably block the heat from reaching your skin anyway.

Okay, I've had this little heater for over a month now, and we have had a chance to get to really get to know one another. The Soleus Air is my new BFF. I take him all over the house with me and we are really happy. He has a nice little recessed handle and is really light and easy to pick up. I've even dropped him a couple of times, and I thought for sure that would kill the poor little guy, but he continued to provide me with the warmth and quiet companionship that one would expect from a true friend. Yes, my buddy Soleus's face is really bright! I think that might bother some people, but I actually like his cheery outlook. "Keep your face to the sun, and you will not see your shadow." Me and Sol don't sleep together... so I can't comment on that - Hey that's a little personal, anyways... Don't tell him I've been sleeping with the hot water bottle. This heater is great for certain uses, not so good for the others. I keep mine under (and behind) my desk on low (only 400 watts) and it keeps me at a perfect temperature. I used to have a little ceramic box heater I used for the same job, and even on high (1500 watts) it didn't work nearly as well.
With that said, also keep this in mind. When this heater is on, it is REALLY bright. You don't want it pointing at your face. I tried it in the TV room pointing at the couch (with me on it) and it was to distracting. Like looking directly into a 100 watt light bulb. You need this heater either below, behind or beside you. If you can do that, you will be very happy with it.
One more thing to consider. I tried a different Radiant heater before this and it had internal fans to keep it cool. Sounded like a 747 taking off. This one has no fans and is completely quiet, a great thing!

I seen this heater being advertised a year back on one of the shopping networks. At the time I thought this was a cool looking heater but was not looking to purchase a heater. This winter was more colder and I remember about this heater and checked around. I didn't see this on the shopping network but found this on Amazon. The heater is really great. The radiant heat with the light emission really warms up the room at an even pace. The light brightens up the room much like a sun light. Also because this is not a fan force heater; it much more comfortable to be around with. It's totally silent and runs beautifully with the variable 90 minute timer. Plus you can oscillate or not depending on your need of instant or gradual warming. This beats oil filled heaters, ceramic heaters, and any others.
First because its efficiency. It runs in two modes 400w and 800w.
Which are a lot less than usually 1000w space heaters. at 400w i am
very comfortable.
second, I LOVE THE LIGHT.
there are studies where people get depressed living in dark regions
or seasonal changes. This thing give you kind of sun-like beam
and is very toasty and comfortable enough for me to go day dream.

People think since it's halogen life span of the heater won't be more very long. However, upon close inspection the coil of the halgen is very
thick. It's not like halogen lamp that you use for lighting purposes.
It will last minimum 3 to 5 years if you are careful with it and don't shake it or move it around.
