Tools and Hardware Reviews of Sona Pillow for Snoring and Mild Sleep ApneaCustomer Review: Very efficient but has its challenges Summary: 4 Stars
I got this pillow for snoring and some mild sleep apnea because it was the only FDA approved one. I was very doubtful since it the ad only said "may reduce" snoring and sleep apnea, but the FDA approval helped.
I have had it for 3 weeks now and has been extremely efficient for me, no ifs and buts and that. My preferred sleeping position is on my back, which is most vulnerable in this case. The pillow make it impossible to go flat on your back. The light tilting also help keep my noise form getting congested every night.
The caveat is that it's so much less comfortable from just lying flat on your back and snoring your night away! The first week is the worst, then you get used to it (follow the advice in the instructions and use another support pillow). It's now much better.
The other issue is that it requires some extra head space for the arms: I now tilt mine and not a big deal.
Bottom line: Very efficient (in my case at least, I slept on my back) but without sacrificing some comfort.
Customer Review: Mixed blessing but it worked for me Summary: 4 Stars
According to my wife I snore less with this pillow.
I don't really like it, it's hard to get used to, (took me two months of try it for half an hour then go back to my old pillow, etc) was very expensive, the pillowcase ripped right away (That pissed me off I now just throw it in a regular pillowcase that's ugly but OK). I'll use it 'til I can replace it.
Now that I know that it's possible to reduce snoring with a pillow, I see that there are others out there when I google 'snore pillows.' I'll try some of the others to compare. But... my wife says I'm snoring less since I started using this one.
Customer Review: Bulky, uncomfortable, impractical, noisy, made my neck sore, and didn't stop my snoring Summary: 1 Stars
The Sona Pillow was bulky, uncomfortable, impractical, noisy, made my neck sore, and didn't stop my snoring at all according to my wife. Brookstone has no-refund policy for the Sona pillow, even if you are TOTALLY dissatisfied.
The pillow itself a funky shape that seemed king-sized (it was really pushing the limits for a queen-sized bed). The pillowcase is custom fitted to the pillow. You can't use regular pillowcases. It comes with a pillowcase on it, but additional pillowcases cost $20 a piece. There are two sewn "sleeves" (small square of fabric sewn on both sides of the square) under the pillowcase so you can put whichever arm you want under the pillow while you "train" yourself to sleep on your side. If you have a really big arm, it probably won't fit. When you put your arm through it, it has to go somewhere and mine was uncomfortably pushed up against the headboard and hanging off in such a way that I was a little worried I might knock something off of my nightstand. I also noticed that the pillow sqeaked when it rubbed against my headboard (my old pillow never squeaked). When I woke up in the morning, my neck ached and I learned that I had been snoring as loudly as usual all night.
I boxed up the pillow in its original packaging and less than a week later I decided I'd call up Brookstone to request a refund (you need an RMA number from them to send it back). The first rep I spoke with just gave me the company line over and over that it was a "personal product" and Brookstone doesn't take returns or make refunds if they have been used at all. I said I was extremely dissatisfied with the pillow and I wanted to speak to his supervisor. He said he would have to leave her a voicemail because she was on another call. I said I'd hold, but then he said I couldn't do that and she didn't have the ability to have me on "hold", which was a lie. I told him I had a friend that was a lawyer, so he put me on hold so I could speak with her. When I spoke with his supervisor, she eventually said a lot of people that have called into Brookstone were similarly displeased with the Sona pillow. She also said that some people called in with praise. But she said though that no matter how displeased a customer is with the pillow (or any other personal product), you cannot get a refund. I asked for her supervisor, got his voice mail, and left a message.
I would suggest staying far away from this pillow unless you have money to burn. It's great if it helps some people, but it didn't help me, and I'm thoroughly displeased with both the product and with Brookstone's refusal to refund the $100 I spent on it.
Customer Review: Don't buy It. It works too well. Summary: 1 Stars
You may ask why wouldn't one want to buy it if it works so well. Here's why: It wakes you up every now and then when you switch for your left side to your right side during your sleep.
My wife bought the sona pillow to stop me from turning on the chainsaw at night(I was told that my snoring sounded like a chainsaw). I felt very bad about my snoring. I tried almost every thing except surgery to stop it. Nothing seemed to work so far. Perhaps losing weight worked the best so far. Luckily my wife slept through the night just fine (18 years and going). I was skeptical when I heard the Sona Pillow advertisement in KGO. I will do anything for my wife. I really use the pillow for a whole week properly according to the instruction. It woke me every single time when I switch sides. My wife told me this action woke her up more then from the snoring. I finally switched back to use my Tempur Pedic Memory Foam Pillow for this last weekend...ahhh that's comfort!
The Sona Pillow didn't even deserve a star if there's a lower rating I could pick. The worse part is that I got stuck with this piece of ##. I knew something is fishy when the salesperson from BrookStone stamped the receipt with "all sales final" and specifically told me that there will be no return allowed because the pillow is a personal hygiene item. He insisted that the pillow work very well if used properly. I saw someone else buying one when we got ours. Darm it.
I hope this review would steer you away from the sales pitch and the advertisement hype about this pillow. Don't be fool. Make sure you can returning it if it doesn't work before you buy it. Like buying it from amazon just like one of reviewer said. Don't buy from BrookStone. The pillow does keep you on your side very well. It would probably work for you if you can sleep through the night on your side without switching.
Customer Review: WARNING! This pillow will severely sprain your neck!! Summary: 1 Stars
NO STARS>I have never ever written a review before--I have never felt as compelled to do so as now. I have medically diagnosed sleep apnea and after trying CPAP mask therapy was keen to find another solution. Using Sona, I woke up the next morning on my back (Brookstone claims the pillow is designed to make that "impossible"--well, the design failed) with my neck jacked up and in searing, shooting pain. My condition continued to worsen and by afternoon I could barely move my neck or shoulder. I then was out of work, in bed, for a week barely unable to lift myself up. I have never experienced such pain and I hope you don't either. I am still recovering the following week. I was curious to learn of others' experiences and upon reading reviews here was shocked to learn about the return policy. I was told in the store that this was returnable within Brookstone's normal 30-day guarantee. I was evidently misinformed but I am appealing to corporate. I lost income on top of the money for this ridiculous pillow I had such high hopes for. If you choose to try this, please be forewarned. It may not just be $140 you lose--you could be seriously hurt.
