Tools and Hardware Reviews of South Shore Furniture, Basic Collection, Queen Platform Bed with Moulding 60", BlackCustomer Review: Waste of money Summary: 1 Stars
The base of this bed is easy enough to put together, and even though it's made from cheap particle-board (hence the low price), it seems stable enough. The real problem started for me when we started to put the actual mattress platform on the base. The four boards weren't cut evenly, so it was impossible to get them to line up perfectly. As a result, the screw holes didn't always line up with the supporting boards that they were meant to screw into. I had to unscrew and reset a couple of the platform boards before getting it good enough to proceed. Even then some of the screws *really* didn't want to go in all the way.
The real hassle, however, is the molding. The molding itself has no screw-holes, and you're supposed to manually drill the screws into the molding as the final step of assembly. Now, maybe mine was just a fluke, but it was completely impossible to screw the provided screws more than a little way into the molding. It's not soft at all; I even propped it up against a wall and tried an electric screwdriver, but even that couldn't budge them even halfway. I couldn't even drive a nail into it. Then I tried gluing the molding on, but it still wouldn't take. My choice was to either leave the molding off (and leave exposed the sharp particle-board edges) or to have them halfway screwed on, uneven and wobbly. The last straw was when, in the process of fiddling with it over several hours, some of the cheapass pieces broke. Eventually I called it quits, tore it apart, and put it out by the trash. I would have returned it for a refund, had that been feasible.
To make a long story short, I spent an entire evening and $140 for nothing. My advice: Save your money for something better quality than this. Some things are just so cheaply made that even a low price doesn't justify their shoddiness.
Customer Review: JUNK: Buyer Beware! Summary: 1 Stars
This is not a functional bed at all. The wood is not what's pictured. It's cheap particle board that warps, chips and breaks with shipping and normal use. It lasted about 12 months -- about as long as a pair of cheap socks. This is a cheap, throwaway disposable bed. I never thought that after I'd purchased this bed, I'd be buying a new one a year later. This purchase soured me on Amazon and Amazon ratings forever.
Customer Review: Destroyed Summary: 1 Stars
My package came in a destroyed box wrapped in plastic to keep it together. No manual and no hardware to assemble. The middle platform piece is missing a whole corner (about a foot). Called SouthShore and they are going to send me replacement pieces for all missing and broken. I guess you really do get what you pay for, but I really didn't get all that I paid for. Just a mess and some grief.
Customer Review: Not Recommended Summary: 1 Stars
This bed frame is poorly made and difficult to assemble. The holes didn't line up perfectly, and for the last step they expect you to lift the whole frame up to screw the molding on. The frame is so poorly made that I guarantee it would fall apart if you lift it. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money on a nice real wood platform bed.
Customer Review: Junk Summary: 1 Stars
We bought this set for our 11 year old daughter and were very disappointed with the quality. Yes, it is cheap but they could have done a little better than this. This thing is particle board JUNK. I think we will have to replace this with in a year or so. Do not buy.
