Tools and Hardware Reviews of SpringTools IDRK905 Professional Grade 48 Piece ID Stamper & Recoining KitCustomer Review: Good Light Duty Stamper with some problems. Summary: 3 Stars
This stamp set seems to be pretty good If you do not care what the stamp layout looks like on the object you are stamping. They only seem to stamp softer objects. I stamped a aluminum pipe wrench and they stamped deep enough, but then I tried to stamp a steel wire stripper and they only looked like small scratches in it but I did not really intend for them to work on that I was just testing them.
I to feel the same way as the last reviewer about his problems. The stamps can rotate around in the tool and there is not a guide to tell which side is up. I fixed that for now with a black marker. The stamps are hexagon shaped just like a screw bit and that makes it more difficult to tell which side is up, but I guess that too could be fixed with a marker. I feel that the stamps should have square sides like a real stamp to better tell which side is up with a notch facing up that only allows them to go in one way, the notch should also be used on the hexagonal shaped ones too and would be more important on this shape. Something that maybe even better would be to make them with pentagonal sides, that would allow for them to only go in one way and allow you to see which side is up pretty easy. I believe were you place the stamps inside the striking tool should be shaped hexagonal like a screwdriver that accepts multiple bits if they continue to use hexagonal stamps instead of a round hole like the tool is now, or if the other shapes are used make them identical. These ideas would help hold the stamps in place for more accuracy. The striking tool should be marked to tell which side is up if they continue to use the hexagon or go with the square to make it faster and easier to use. They should also make it easier to handle the striking tool by adding some U shaped hooks at the bottom so your fingers stay in place. My idea for the top part would be to add another piece like a trigger, make it to fit around the top and have U shaped hooks or round holes that you can fit your fingers in with a button on top that you can release the two pieces with your thumb when pulled back. That would work about like a trigger release for a bow and arrow. Another idea that would work would be to add an enclosure for the striking tool that has the U hooks in between to pieces of metal. When pulled back the metal would guide the rest of it to make it accurate. A release button could be added to that and a handle above all of the moving parts to give you more room to hold it in place, this idea would just make it more solid.
My ideas my have made this tool to expensive but if some of the cheaper ideas were used I would pay $10 to $20 more for this tool. Like the stamps and inside of the tool being square or pentagon shaped, a guide, more room to handle the stamper. It seems like they released it without doing some more testing to see how it could be improved. It is a good idea but needed more testing and improvement. I will probably be buying another one of the stampers for work but will not be happy with them until it is redesigned. Out of all of the tools SpringTools have this looks like it might be the one that gives you the most problems. SpringTools I hope you read reviews from different sites to see what you can improve because. I think this could be a big seller with some improvement.
