Tools and Hardware Reviews of SteamFast SF-407 1500-Watt Fabric SteamerCustomer Review: Bye bye iron... Summary: 5 Stars
I am one of those people that will wash clothes and if they come out too wrinkly they are hidden away in my closet....essentially forever. I remembered how fast and easy it was to get wrinkles out of clothes using a steamer when I worked in retail as a teenager and wondered if a smaller home model would be as effective. Well...it certainly is. I LOVE this steamer!
The first day I got it I excitedly pulled it out, filled it with water, and began testing it on my newly washed clothes. It was so fast and easy that I began pulling those clothes out of my closet that were so wrinkled that taking an iron to them seemed hopeless and in less than a minute each article was complete.
The basics: light materials (rayon, silk, cotton) are perfect for a steamer. The wrinkles come out very quickly and if a few drops get on the item when you initially turn the steamer on the steam makes the water evaporate almost immediately. The steamer also works really well on thick fabrics such as sweaters; although it's not as quick as rayon it's still very quick...probably still well under a minute.
Positive: very fast, clean, and easy; the pole that you hang your clothing from is very convenient; the pole can be collapsed for easy storage; great for odd items like ruffled collars on women's shirts that are more difficult to iron; can also be used on curtains although an extension would be needed because the cord can only extend about 6'.
Negative: if you want a crease in your pants than you can't use a steamer.
This is the best money I spent since I got my first Tivo over 10 years ago. I am going to buy one for everyone I know. Whether you see the iron as a nuisance like I did or not the steamer is still an excellent purchase and a really great price for the overall value.
Customer Review: yahoo! Summary: 5 Stars
I have wanted a steamer for a long time, mostly for curtains, larger items and specialty fabrics; I have daughters so we have had (and still have)lots of party/prom dresses that make trips to the dry cleaners just to be de-wrinkled. I finally got around to doing some research on steamers and based on reviews and price I chose the SF-407. It could not be any easier to use. It gently removed wrinkles from a wide variety of fabrics. The first thing I used it on was a pair of lined trousers- the result was outstanding! No shiny ironing lines and so fast! The steamer also performs well on heavier cottons although I do have best results when I steam from the inside out and pull the head down against the fabric. My favorite item to steam are the suit jackets I only wear in the car or plane- they don't get dirty as much as they do wrinkled and they are not condusive to ironing. Now I just steam them between cleanings. Steaming won't replace dry cleaning, but I think I will save 3 or 4 times the cost of the steamer by not dry cleaning items just to have them pressed. The steamer won't replace the iron either if you like starched items or crisp lines, but the steamer is fast and easy and does many things that the iron can't do. I bought the SF-407 "Used-like new" from Amazon Warehouse for $49 (free shipping). The description said broken box and there was a hole in the box but it was securely taped and no larger than the size of a baseball. I am very happy with the purchase. Thank you, Amazon, for letting people write in opinions- it made my decision making much easier.
Customer Review: Should've bought it sooner! Summary: 5 Stars
I had been wanting a steamer for a long time - ever since I saw a TV show on one (the actual product got poor reviews on Amazon so I didn't buy that one). Finally I saw this one at an affordable price with good reviews and I am well pleased with the purchase! Yes, you do need to practice steaming (using this product) just like it took you a while to be a master-ironer but once you get a hang of it you would not be using your old iron anymore! I have lots of clothing items to steam for my family of five and every week I enjoy steaming away loads of dress shirts, pants, sweaters, dresses and more! While I am an expert shirt ironer, I never liked ironing my husband's pants and my job was nowhere near a dry-cleaner's finish but with this steamer I no longer have awkward lines and I get the crisp lines using the little press thing that came with it! The steam is gentle yet powerful so it's a beeze to steam delicate silk shirts, dresses, sweaters, and those dark shirts that always left those white iron marks! Once you get a hang of it, steaming dress shirts isn't that hard either and I do get crisp lines on the sleeves, too! The minor negatives I have are: the hose is short so you can't reach the top of your drapes, etc. anything far away without lifting the unit and the steam is powerful so if you're not careful you can burn yourself easily (but that's true for traditional irons also!).
Customer Review: Great value for money Summary: 5 Stars
I was looking for a clothing steamer to help offset my dry cleaning bills. Shopped and compared steamers on Amazon.com and read reviews. It seems that no steamer is perfect but this one was the best value for money. The only downsides with this steamer include:
- short hose emitting steam
- short power cord
- short telescoping stand
- plastic water tank may strip threads from fill nozzle in the future
The advantages with this steamer include:
- fast heat up
- easy to use
- ultra-fast assembly (almost completely assembled)
- compact construction (offsets the short telescoping stand and hose)
- press pad included does help significantly
- easy to fill water tank
- generates plenty of steam to do the job
I can't comment on reliability because I have not had the steamer for long enough. With a simple lint brush you can get a great refresher on clothes and extend the period between dry cleaning. Simply by delaying my dry cleaning by one visit I paid for the steamer.
Tips: get a lint brush (purchase a cheap one if you don't have one), an extension cord with three prongs, a jug of distilled water from your local grocery store, and you'll be steaming in no time.
Customer Review: Best Clothing Steamer Yet! Summary: 5 Stars
I had another clothing steamer last year that was a little less expensive. It worked okay and did the job, but NOTHING compared to this one.
This SteamFast SF-407 1500-Watt Fabric Steamer far surpases any I've tried. I've used the little hand steamers before too.
The steamfast is the fastest. Not only does it steam the clothing fast but it also heats up quickly.
I totally recommend this to everyone!
It's very affordable too, and I can't imagine that any are any better than this one.
Always used distilled water. That is why my other one broke. But that's okay because I have a better one now.
You can buy counter top water distillers here on amazon which will save you money in the long run.
It's also very good for you to drink instead of tap water. I saw one that made 4 gallons which is what I'm getting. It was the best price. Just look up water distiller.
You can always buy it by the gallon and save up for one if you can't afford it right now.
You will love this steamer though. I give it more stars than the one they advertise on TV (my sister has that one).
Happy buying!
