Tools and Hardware Reviews of SteamFast SF-407 1500-Watt Fabric Steamer

Customer Review: 1500-Watt SteamFast SF-407 Fabric Steamer
Summary: 5 Stars

Excellent job on silk curtains that had been boxed for oh, 20+ years!! Wrinkles were historic!

'Drawbacks' as noted by others - hose gets very hot; Hose too short so I had to rig up a rolling table (yeah, well the curtains were 11' tall...) to do the top; occasional sputter of water when working with hose down low.

Otherwise EXCELLENT- particularly as curtains smelled musty before I started, but were not so when I was done. Also, it's powerful enough to get through heavy silk and cotton backing (honestly, I took the time to do some of the backing separately as I started working to be sure there wouldn't be a problem with the silk, but quit after doing the front and having adequate results on the back without having to go over stuff twice!). I've used it for some woolen skirts and one silk/rayonish mixed skirt that have been packed since last spring with good results.

Customer Review: A Great Little Steamer
Summary: 5 Stars

Previously I had the SF-465 steamer and it crapped out after a year. After reading the great reviews on this little unit, I decided to give it a try. Let me tell you it blows away the much more expensive SF-465!!! Here are the advantages, this unit outputs more steam than any other model I have tried with less water drops! You do not have to hold a steam button like many other units. You just turn the switch on and you are steaming in 30 seconds. It is half the size of the SF-465 so its easy to store in the laundry room and I love the fact that the water tank pops out easily for refill. With the Sf-465 I had to carry a water container back and forth to add water. I'm thrilled with this unit, but I've only had it for a week. I'll try to follow up in a few months...

UPDATE JULY 2010:
STILL WORKING GREAT!!!!

Customer Review: Great value and product
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned and used this steamer for four - five months now. The way that I have found that it works best is to hang the clothes on a hook on door or wall so it gives something solid behind the item to more easily steam the garment. I use it every morning for my daily work clothes. Using the brush that comes with it works much better with heavier fabrics such as polos and T-shirts. I take the brush off for polyester and silk items. Like some other reviewers said, do not let children use this steamer as it does get hot. Using a door or wall hook seems to help elimate accidental burns or swipes of steam.
The biggest problem I have is running out of water unexpectedly, but that's my fault for not watching the water level.
I am very happy with this machine and much prefer it to ironing. :)

Customer Review: Excellent buy!
Summary: 5 Stars

I wanted to share my experience with the purchase of a SteamFast SF-407. "I LOVE IT" this has been the BEST purchase I have ever made. I had procrastinated for years and regret not buying one earlier in my life. Between work, kids and their school, home etc., I do not have time to iron but I do it anyway and hate it. Hate it because of the white streak marks left on my work pants, sweaters and skirts. Once I received the box, opened it and assembled the steamer it took all of about 5 minutes. It was an easy set up, filled the steamer with water and a minute later it was ready to go steaming away! I ironed my clothes for today in a snap and they looked like they just came out of the drycleaners. I am sooo happy. You will not regret it.

Customer Review: Works as advertised
Summary: 5 Stars

Saw this on Amazon and was unsure of steamers in general. For under sixty bucks, I thought I'd give it a shot. Came packaged well from Amazon, assembled in 10 mins. Got some distilled water from the grocery store. Was headed to a wedding, pulled my suit out and noticed some light stains and wrinkles. Steamed the suit jacket and pants, stains/dirt came off and wrinkles disappeared. The suit even smelled fresh! My tailor recommends dry cleaning suits 1 time a year to make them last, now with this steamer, I may be able to accomplish that. One time steaming all my suits instead of taking it to the cleaners will have this thing pay for itself. Great buy, highly recommended to anyone with a large amount of "dry-clean" only clothing.
