Tools and Hardware Reviews of Step2 533800 MailMaster Trimline Mailbox, Black

Customer Review: Tough and good value.
Summary: 4 Stars

Arrived quickly even before date they estimated. This all in one mailbox is tough and looks good and easy to install with a 4ft. wood post which is not included. I got a pressure treated 4ft. 4x4. 2ft. goes in the ground and two above. You just need a screwdriver and an adjustable wrench (preferably an offset one-makes it easier.) We used the portable drill with a screwdriver bit. I wanted to and did decorate mine with painted stencils of birds and leaves/branches using Krylon Fusion in light grey spray paint brushed on for the base coat as any other paint won't adhere to plastic and then used acrylics over that and top coated with clear Krylon sealer spray paint brushed on. It was a slow process and a bit of a pain to decorate but looks great and unusual. I did the address numbers this way too. I brushed on the spray paint by spraying just a little bit at a time in to a small glass baby food jar as it dries very quickly and then quickly brushing on the base and topcoat. Be sure to use a glass and not a plastic jar as the Krylon Fusion paint works/adheres by actually melting in to the plastic and it will melt a hole in a plastic container after a bit. I am going on about the decorating in case anyone else wants to decorate any kind of plastic mailbox as I had a time finding out what paints to use that would adhere and last outdoors on plastic and maybe this will help someone else in my shoes. One could spray the paints on if you were good with spray painting but I am not and knew with stencils I would probably have drips and mess up my stencils so that is why I brushed mine on.
