Tools and Hardware Reviews of Heating & Air Conditioning Booster

Customer Review: Luke Warm
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this item when we were having 110 degree F. air temp. in Arkansas and our A/C just couldn't cool our living room below 78 degrees F. The room has a cathedral ceiling and about 25 ft X 15 ft. Our general impression was that it helped somewhat - but did not make a remarkable difference. This could be b/c the heat was so extreme that nothing would have helped. Our A/C is practically new and works well, so I'm not inclined to blame it. I would predict that the smaller the room and probably one w/o a cathedral ceiling would be ideal for this product - it definitely brings the air up and out better. Also, if you live in an area with desert or tropical conditions where temps are extreme, you'll likely feel 'luke warm' about this Register Booster. For the money, I'd do it again. We'll continue to experiment with it - maybe putting it in different rooms to gauge it's effectiveness. But, I'd say that if you have a large area to cool (and you know you're A/C is working properly), you may wish to invest in a air flow booster that technicians place in your duct work.

Customer Review: Works but not that great
Summary: 3 Stars

We bought this for our son who recently moved into his first apartment in college. The appartment is air conditioned but his room is on the second floor of the unit, and the vent in his room had very low air flow. He reported that the product worked but did not significantly lower the temperature of his room. Given the price, I would say it was worth it. We will see if it is effective this coming winter, although the layout of his unit minimizes the significance of his vent with respect to heating.

Customer Review: Works but the fan is loud
Summary: 3 Stars

This booster does help in lower temps in Summer. But the fan is loud at around 50 to 60 db.

Computers now have fans that move same volume of air with 30 db or less. This is something Suncourt need to change.

Customer Review: LOUD! But works, if...
Summary: 2 Stars

To clarify why I think there's such a huge discrepancy between reviewers, it's probably because this thing is only effective if you have a LOW AIRFLOW REGISTER. That is, if your register is working properly and blowing out a sufficient amount of air already, this won't help at all (it may actually restrict airflow). However, if your register barely has any airflow through it, then this will make a huge difference. In my case, I have a central air system that was poorly designed and get little airflow through some registers. This makes all of the difference for those registers.

PRO's:
- Pulls air through registers with low airflow
- Relatively easy to install (hang it over a register and plug it in)
- Adjustable thermostat for heat and cool (causes the fan to turn on when heat or cool air is flowing through)

CON's:
- EXTREMELY LOUD FAN!!! (I hate that the fan is so loud; this cost it 2 stars in my rating)
- Single thermostat means that you need to readjust it every time you switch between hot and cold (a pain in the butt in the Spring, with warm/cool days)
- Poor construction (cheaply made)
- Designed for short registers (it doesn't properly cover standard 10"x6" registers)

The noise is definitely a HUGE PROBLEM with this thing. I would not buy it again because of this. I need another register booster, but am looking elsewhere.

Customer Review: great idea, poor execution.
Summary: 2 Stars

I have had one of these for many years now. Its used in a corner bedroom that has two windows. The room is too cold in the winter, and too hot in the summer.

This product has remained functional and dependable ever since I bought it 4 years ago. It has been tolerant of dust buildup on the interior of the unit, and does well at keeping the dust away from the motor. The controls are simple and easy to operate. The unit is moderately quiet during operation, but is a bit on the noisy side for use in bedrooms if you like it very quiet.

The problem comes in that the design of the interior of the unit is very poor.

The fan itself is good, but absolutely no effort was made in positioning the fan properly in the housing, or designing the chassis around the fan. The end result being that a large amount of the air will churn inside the casing of the unit instead of being forced up and out of the unit. This means that any suction that the unit could produce is lost inside the unit itself. Also, I think this contributes to the unit being noisier than you would expect.

Unfortunately, there are few products on the market for this job, especially at this price. My use of this has been helpful in alleviating the problems where I am using it, but frankly, its only good for a couple of degrees and I only use it when its absolutely necessary.
