The unit is not an air conditioner, so do not expect it to cool a room like one. However, it does cool you when the unit is blowing in front of you. I live in dry, desert Nevada. I use the unit as instructed, using only water. The temps here have been in the high 70's to low 80's and when sitting in the circulation area of the unit, it gets me cold to the point I have to wear covers. The unit is approximately 15-20 feet away from the area I sit, in a fairly large living room. When I leave the unit's circulation area, the room itself is not cold. Another benefit of the unit is that the moisture it blows out has done wonders for my sinuses. Also, I have research other evaporative coolers and by far, this is the least expensive.Customer Review: IT'S COOL

This product works very well if you follow the directions, use the advice offered by some other reviewers here (like proper water and ice mixture, leave a window open, and don't use in a humid climate), and if you only use it for a smaller room. It does what it claims to do. It's a fan that blows ice cold humid air. It cools a 150 sq. ft. area of my house by about ten degrees, but I put other plain fans around it to help stir that cool air around. My only problem is that it's a bit of a pain to take so much stuff apart to clean it and that it goes through water a bit faster than I thought. It's well worth the money, but if you have a larger area, you need a more powerful machine.Customer Review: Gave as a gift! They LOVE it!

I gave this to my son and his wife as one of their wedding gifts. They live in southern California. She wrote to me "I thought it was going to be just like a ceiling fan type thing, where it just blew the warm air around, but nope-this thing blows out ice cold air-just like the air conditioner of a car-and the whole apartment is SO much more comfortable because of it. And it has provided much-needed relief to the cats too, because they were so unhappy in the boiling heat. Now they're both situated directly in front of the air cooler and couldn't be more content. So.......THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!"

for those who says it does not cool down your room, it sure does not. It's a cooler not a conditioner!!

How good it is?
When i add ice and water and put a ice pouch on the top..it's chilling like an air conditioner!
when i just add water. It's cool like the ocean breeze but do not keep your windows or doors closed it will make you wet.
even when you don't add water and turn the cool air off..this thing blows out cooler air than normal fan.
So i give it 5 star. easy to use and easy to clean.

This is a great little machine that even an old lady can operate! Here in the Southwest corner of the US our temps can reach 110, as they did a week ago. The little Sunpentown was steadily pumping 67 degree air into our living room. We use the Sunpentown as a "crutch" to our 4 ton A/C, running them both at the same time. With the Sunpentown, however, the A/C cycles off and stays off for longer periods of time, saving us lots of dough all the while! If you live in an area where humidity runs 50% or less, this will be effective in your home.
