Tools and Hardware Reviews of SPT SH-1508 Tower Ceramic Heater with Ionizer

Customer Review: Nice Little Heater
Summary: 5 Stars

This heater isn't bad, it is smaller than I anticipated but the person I bought it for loves it, which is what counts the most. The remote seems to be a bit on the cheesy side but over time I will see how it holds out. I am hoping it does well. There was a slight smell when I first turned the unit on but it went away very quickly and heated a nice size room rather quickly. Now take this into consideration. I live in Charlotte NC so it really doesn't get cold here or it hasn't gotten below the 30s since this unit was opened on Chirstmas day so I can't say how this unit will handle a truly cold climate "I grew up in Cleveland OH" so I know what cold is and I think this unit will do fine in a small to medium room but anyting larger you may want to consider something with more teeth.

When you press any of the buttons on the unit or the remote the display lights up nice and bright but it cuts itself off in short order, this is nice because it won't interupt your sleep. The fan is really is pretty much noise free as well as when you turn on the oscillating option. The timer feature is very nice and works like a charm but I have found when the unit cuts itself off it doesn't keep it settings so if you like it set at a certain temp you will always have to set it when you turn it on. The thermastat works very nice and actually cuts the unit on and off as it should which is a definate plus.

This unit doesn't hold the setting you make when you turn it off and that is a negitive and it would be nice if it had a clock so you could set a timer to turn it on and warm a room before you get up in the morning, but they may condider that a safety issue but none the less it would be nice.

As for right now I am really happy with this unit and would recommend it without reservation.

Customer Review: Lovin' my new Christmas present
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great little heater. Our living room is about 20'x20' with 13' high cathedral ceilings and large picture windows, and it stays about 4 to 5 degrees colder than the rest of our house. I finally got tired of bundling up just to watch T.V., so I put this heater on my Christmas list.

After 1/2 a day of using it, I'm loving it. The heater is small, attractive, quiet, easy to use, and most importantly, keeps the room comfortably warm. A lot of reviewers have complained about the bright display, but the company seems to have listened. It now automatically dims itself a few seconds after you turn it on or make any adjustments.

We are using it on Auto setting at 70 degrees, so it warms the room up to about 71, turns itself off, waits for the temperature to drop to 69, and then turns itself on again. I'm very pleased with this gift and feel it is doing everything I would want a small heater to do.

I do have a couple of recommendations to the manufacturer on how to improve this product. One is to have it remember its last settings. For this product, every time you turn the power off and then back on, you have to reset it to Auto and set your temperature. Since I am always going to use it in the same place at the same setting, it would be nice if I didn't have to readjust it every time. However, this is a small thing as it only takes a few seconds to reprogram. But it seems like an obvious feature to add. The other recommendation is to put a digital clock in the heater and allow the user to program it to come on at a certain time. If I were using this heater in a cold bedroom, I would want this feature, so it could start warming my bedroom before I woke up.

Customer Review: Cold Feet Warm Heart
Summary: 5 Stars

Every winter my 91-year old Mother spends a month with me, and it is very difficult to keep her cozy in my home. By the time she feels warm enough, I am wilting, and the bill for my central heating goes through the roof. Last winter I purchased the SPT tower heater in the hope that it would heat the room she was currently in. I have high ceilings and a lot of windows but, as I moved the heater from room to room with Mom, it succeeded in rapidly raising the temperature to her comfort level. The unit is quiet, it seems to evenly spread its heat throughout the room, and the remote control turned out to be quite handy. I wasn't sure whether the portable heater would raise or lower my utility bill, but I was definitely pleased to be able to keep Mom perfectly comfortable. I was so pleased that after Mom left I turned down the central heat and continued to use the portable heater at my own comfort level, moving it from bedroom to office. My utility bills are 5-month-averaged, and I'm happy to report that this heater contributed greatly to reducing my 5-month-average by $30 per month! I have just ordered an additional one for added convenience. The heater is a very lightweight plastic, and I was concerned that it would be flimsy, but we didn't experience any problems at all.

Customer Review: Stop looking and buy this NOW!
Summary: 5 Stars

Uhm yeah, how can you NOT think this is a great product? I got this for my bedroom cause my parents were stingy about heating bills (my room being the most poorly circulated room in the house). I've had this thing for two months now and it is great; in about an hour and a half I can turn my frigid 63 degree room into a 75 degree jungle (I can ussually turn it on, take a shower, and then walk into a comfortable room when I'm done). The remote is extremely handy, never need to get up to change the temp on the console. Oh and the blue LCD is not really a factor, I've seen it shut off after a while. Yeah, If you're like me and have to do TONS of research before you're satisfied in making a large and complicated purchase (I must have spent a month), save yourself some time and just get this one.

Pros:
- Quiet
- Occilates
- Farenheit Thermostat (No stupid HIGH LOW nonsense)
- Remote control
- Tip over safety feature
- Odorless
- Modern sleek design
- You'd have to be pretty negligent to burn yourself

Cons:
- Not sure how much electricity it consumes
- You need a good foot of perimeter around it
- Being stuck in a market filled with a whole slew of terrible similar products

Customer Review: Versatile product - Good Value

I looked at several different units before deciding to purchase this one. I'd never heard of this brand before so I gave this one a little more scrutiny before ordering it to go in my office at work. I was not disappointed. It does everything the ads described and does it quietly, which is important to me since my job requires concentration and I can't afford the distraction. The oscillation feature is great and really distributes the air well. If you're looking for something that feels like a roaring fireplace like some heaters do, to use in an unheated area, this would not be the unit to buy, but it does a wonderful job if like me you just happen to be in a cold area in a building that has heat. My office is on the top floor of our building with a single pane of poorly fitted glass between me and the outside...it's too warm in the summer, and too cold in the winter. Since I bought this unit I have not had one uncomfortable day, and it seems to be built very well. It also has the air filter and ionizer on it for fresher air--I've never smelled that musty smell you get from some heaters. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a similar unit.
