The Sylvania LED Motion Sensor Light is ideal for garages, decks, entryways, hallways, stairways, and any areas where safety and security is a concern. Because it runs on three 'AAA' batteries (included), this LED doesn't require an outlet, so you can install it just about anywhere. Illumination When You Need It
The LED Motion Sensor Light automatically turns on at dark, or it can be set to turn on when it senses motion within a 130-degree, 13-foot radius. This is going to save me a lot of money in wasted electricity. I live in a rural setting and I have a tenant who cannot be bothered to shut off his outside porch light switch. He had added a screw in motion detection device (that was rated for indoor use only)into the outdoor porch light. The motion device he screwed in malfunctioned in the cold. So the light would stay on for all hours- even during the day- when it was cold, (basically all winter). And he would never turn it off. His porch light would also come on if there was any movement over a 360 radius during less cold times because it overlooked an open field full of night wildlife. The tenant loved that the field would be lit up by his movements if he happened to walk out there sometimes at night. So basically the light has been on for 6 months lighting up the field for the wild animals.
I bought two of these Sylvania LED lights one for each end of a long porch. I placed one near each door as the porch is probably 35 feet long. Now upon opening either door it will turn on one of these lights and there is 10 feet of overlap lighting in the middle of the porch that is lit by both lights. As you step out of the range of a light, that light will go out but the other light stays on until you leave the porch. They are plenty bright for safety and they work very well. It was zero degrees last night and the lights were responsive and bright enough to comfortably light my way.(I don't like to be in dark or dim spaces either). The tenant complained that these lights turn off too quickly, (being used to a light that never turned off, I wonder about his real issue). He told me that these motion LED lights go off while he fumbles for his keys. I tested the lights and I could not get the light to go out while I stood still on the porch but the light did go out as soon as I stepped out of range. I am going to disconnect the wired porch light while he gets used to this motion light. And then maybe we need to position the light better to pick up his subtle movements while he searches for his keys. It has taken me a year to get him to lock his door when he leaves the premises to protect the safety of the others living on the premises- so maybe finding his keys takes him a lot longer than it would take most people just because he is not used to having his keys handy and he is not happy about having to lock his door in the first place. I suggested that he fumble for his keys inside the garage before stepping outside onto the porch and that option was not agreeable to him. (Why, heaven only knows because he had to have his keys in his hand when he got out of his car 250 feet from his front door. How does one lose track of where his keys are so quickly?
I am going to buy more of these LED lights I am very pleased. I wish they sold them in a 4-pack. I am going to put them in my garage. The magnet on the bottom of the light is quite strong. There is also an 'On' button which over rides the motion sensor. I bet these would be great lights for working under a car or under a sink. Wherever there is metal nearby to stick the magnet onto.
