Tools and Hardware Reviews of Nebo Super Csi LED Flashlight w/ LaserCustomer Review: Excellent Light Summary: 4 Stars
I have a large number of LED flashlights to compare this to, and I must say that it tops the majority of them easily. The main light is a single LED that puts out 75 lumens of clear, white light. Make no mistake about it, that's a bright light. Sure, I also have the NEBO Redline which blazes with an astounding 220 lumens, but the Super CSI is brighter than the majority of all LED lights, and 75 lumens is better for many applications where too bright a light simply blinds you when your eyes are adjusted to the dark. This light has quite a reach, and can fill up a room with light.
Around that central, well-focused lamp, the colored LED's and the laser are distributed alternating in a ring. Many of my lights are by NEBO; their products seem a cut above most others, because of the depth of the design. Not content to stop with just a light, they make it a potential weapon, useful for digging out an embedded object, a signal for help, plus the green light, UV light (you'll be surprised what lights up when contacted by this), and of course the laser which makes an excellent pointer.
But that's not all. A ring magnet surrounds the switch in rear of the flashlight. This will hold it to any ferric-type surface -- steel, iron, or any other magnetizable metal. Not only does this make a great way to store the light, it also will hold it to an opened automobile hood or trunk lid, or suspend it from other metal items that might be hanging in a camp (the bottom of a lantern, for instance, which you might not want to light at the moment). I keep mine suspended from the metal frame of the valence light under my cabinet. It's a natural place to reach for a light when running out the door.
If there is any drawback about the light, it would be the switch you must press X number of times to get to the lighting mode you want. It's not really a problem, since generally you want a bright light first, which is the first click, of course. But when you turn it off, you have to count through the other five clicks. I don't consider that a problem, and it's also one of the light's features: a single button. If you're going with a single button, there are fewer parts to wear out or to keep out of harm's way, and that means multiple modes require multiple clicks.
Incidentally, the SOS feature is achieved by holding down the switch for three seconds, so you don't have to cycle through it.
Powered by 3 AAA batteries, available anywhere, this light goes a long way on one set of batteries. Keep other sets around for long-term power outages and emergencies. It's amazing to see this much coming from batteries I would have thought useless for serious lighting just 5 years ago.
This is a great light. I find the green useful even walking at night and looking into the trees. UV for me is mostly a novelty, but I do like knowing what shows up under UV light, and it's interesting to see certain minerals fluoresce when you hit them with UV. Lasers are good for lots of things, including pet toys. (keep it out of their eyes!) It's not a long-distance spot, but is perfect for most near-field situations. If you want the brightest LED there is, then this is not it. You might consider the NEBO Redline for that. There are some videos circulating on custom-making your own super-LED lights. I don't need that. The Redline is enough. But for everything else, this light can do all you need.
