Tools and Hardware Reviews of Chamberlain RWA-300R Wireless Alert System

Customer Review: My tools are safe
Summary: 5 Stars

I have my work truk loaded with expensive tools, after a few failed theft attempts, my small air compressor had been lifted out of the truck untill the chain grew tight and was left hanging out of the truck bed. I purchased this unit and it has worked perfectly for 5 yrs now. Also its nice to know when the mail has arrived and when UPS or Fed Ex has left a package. The first time the alarm went off I grabbed my pellet rifle which looks quite real with a scope and confronted a car full of druggies, one was lifting up the tarp covering my tools, with a gun pointed at them they left in a big hurry with engine roaring and tires squeeling, I thought they wer going to crash going around the first turn. They havnt been back. It was great feeling of satisfaction seeing the wide eyed fear in their faces. Now with some cameras and an extra reporter the neighborhood drug addicts go elsewhere. I paid $69 each for mine. I also have a home on a small tropical island in the Philippines, my chickens have all been stolen and som clothes hanging on the line. Will be buying a few more.

Customer Review: At last, one that works! But not for long....
Summary: 5 Stars

We previously bought a driveway alarm at Lowes, labeled GE but made in China. The package said "works to 400 feet." After opening the box, the directions said, "works to 200 feet." In testing it, I found it would transmit the 100 feet I needed, but would only trigger on metal objects as large as my 40-foot steel garage building. Since we have few of those coming up our driveway, it was essentially useless.

Then I saw "The Reporter" here at Amazon, and decided to try it. To my amazement I found that it was made here in America! And not only that, it works very well. I now have it mounted about 300 feet down the driveway, and it has not missed any vehicle. $8 cheaper than the GE unit, and far superior. And made in the USA. What more could you ask?

Added 12/4/06: The original lasted two weeks. Amazon sent a replacement, which arrived with no AC adapter. The manufacturer sent that. Then the second one lasted three days. Amazon refunded my money. Now I am again looking for a good quality wireless driveway alarm....

Customer Review: Fine security addition
Summary: 5 Stars

At first, I was a bit skeptical about "just another PIR" product. Not this one. It has a narrow detection area, which greatly reduces falsing. The nicest feature is the dry contacts in the receiver, which can be used for alarm interconnect to most anything. I connected mine to a wireless doorbell transmitter, and now it signals me throughout the house and back yard. I then connected to my security camera DVR, so any activity in the driveway area starts the recording. Battery life of the transmitter is indeed measured in years, and uses inexpensive AA batteries. It is very convenient to know when the paper, mail, and delivery people are approaching the house, and comforting to know that uninvited guests will be "Reported". My cat likes it, too. True, it will not false on small animals on the ground, but she figured out that if she hops up on the hood of my pickup and sees the green internal light flash (inside the transmitter), the front door to the house will soon open!

Customer Review: Caught a thief with this
Summary: 5 Stars

Works perfectly. We had a thief that kept stealing items from our cars and garage. Bought this and one additional sensor. Put one outside near our gate and one in the garage pointing down over the door so it couldn't be seen by someone opening the door. Took the base station upstairs and had it on when we went to bed each night . . . we were awakened at 5 am by a single beep from the first sensor, got to the window in time to see the thief enter our garage and heard the double beep of the second sensor. He was a little surprised to walk out of the garage and be confronted by myself and my son with baseball bats . . . held him until the police arrived (took only 3 minutes!)

Signal went through 5 walls for one sensor and 3 for the other and had no problem. The beep is a little loud, but we just wrapped it in a towel to muffle it. Easy to use, works just like description, and cheap. Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Reporter Works Great
Summary: 5 Stars

Installed The "The Reporter" Wireless Alert System
1 week ago,(Oct 07) about 15 feet from driveway on a wooden fence post, four (4) feet above the ground. The side of the post that the reporter is mounted on directly faces the driveway. Turned the reporter as far to one side as possible, away from the street/road towards the house.

The post is about 8 feet away from a busy, 45mph roadway.

The receiver is about 500 feet away in my house.

It works! Every time. I recommend this. Will see how it works over the winter, and update this review if any problems arise.

Update Jan 25, 2009. No problems, after 1 year 3 months, it is still working great. Have not yet replaced the battery. I did originlly use a high quality battery for "cameras" a 9 volt.
